      Angry Losing Internet connection

      Hi
      Hope someone can help. Joined sky 5 days ago, ever since I have been having problems staying connected to the internet. When I lose my connection I go into the sky router to check my connection status and it says LCP DOWN
      When I try to connect it normally takes about 5 mins to do it. I try the sky test and I get error code 300.
      The router is turned off each night.
      Any ideas? Its driving me mad
      Here are my router stats

      Re: Losing Internet connection

      I would ;

      A) switch off the UPnP function on router homepage
      B) leave the router on, designed to do this
      C) stand it upright using the supplied feet to disapate any heat as this will make it kick off.

      Downstream noise level loks low and it might be worthwhile running stats before and after using engineer test socket.

      How far are u away from exchange ?

      What BB service do you have ?

      No - it is fine.

      Also, in my experience the UPnP bug doesn't usually produce an error code 300 (no IP address) but it certainly can't hurt to turn it off, an attenuation of 49db means a line length of ~3.5km and with a connection of 5824/416 that looks like a Mid connection (or a capped Max).

      Good advice to leave the router on and put it on its feet.

      @cathl

      If turning off UPnP doesn't make a difference, please post back with more details of your problem.

      Smile Re: Losing Internet connection

      I turned the UPnP off on the router and also stood the router up, and so far today I have been connected for nearly 2 hours with no downtime, and also the speed seems to be much improved.
      Thans for the suggestions, I'm happy again

      Re: Losing Internet connection

      That's good - hope it stays that way. Looks like it could be the UPnP bug then - or maybe an overheating router.

      The increase in speed is almost certainly down to the difference in noise margin. In the first set of stats you connected at 5824 and at the time of measuring your NM was 8.1db. This time you connected at 6816 and at the time of measuring the NM was 6.0db. Connection speed and noise margin have an inverse relationship. If you read through the first sticky in my signature at the bottom of the post, this is explained in some detail.

      The noise margin in your latest stats is approaching the point where disconnections can occur. If it drops below about 5.8db then you should consider taking preventative action. Again, see the sticky for more info.
