      Question wireless card

Please help I am a complete newbie to all this. I will shortly be getting Sky Broadband max and need to know what I need to do to my pc to receive it. I know Sky will provide the router but the wirless card is beating me, I see it talked about as being a ethernet card, my pc has a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC installed and also a Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) card installed./ Are these okay or do I need another card, if so which will be the best ?.

      Thanks

      Re: wireless card

I think that the first question is do you want to connect to the router wirelessly given that you have two ethernet ports?

If the answer is yes, then you will either need a wireless card or alternatively a wireless USB dongle.

      Re: wireless card

Thank you for your reply. I have plenty of room near my pc so if I can site the router near to my pc then I will not want to connect wirelessly.

Thanks again, hopefully will not have the problems some are getting. Should be okay as I understand with max a sky engineer wil come and set up.

      Re: wireless card

Well, let's hope the "engineer" who visits is a bit better than white-van-man who delivered our router, simply plugged it in and checked that Internet Explorer worked with it before departing.

Anyway, it sounds as if you've identified your network connector -- and the Sky router includes an ethernet cable so there shouldn't be any problem. You can always add wireless later.
