And around 7pm this evening I got my "there might be some downtime" email come through at last (seeing it was sent at 15.14).

      lol Alan

We decided to do that about 3.15pm however sending nearly 4000 emails takes some time, just hope we don't get done for spamming.

      Re: Urgent News re SkyUser

By the time you get to read this post, we will hopefully have no more problems with membership and posts going missing.

We completed our server move approx 4.15pm Sunday 7th Jan. We moved our databases off the old server and resynced with the new one before we allowed any access to the foums.

The old server has a holding page and if that is seen, is purely because the DNS has not propagated across the internet.

It was a big decision to move the server and tbh has got to be one of the best ones we have made. This allows us now to grow further than we have over the last 5 months.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to say thank you to our new partners Dedicated Hosting | Shared Hosting | Reseller Hosting for their expertise and help and commitment in making this possible. We also hope to have a long term successful partnership.

Once again I apologise for the downtime and the inconvenience, but as this is the way the internet works, we got off rather lightly. And hope that SkyUser can help you out quicker and far better than ever before.

As for all the french on here, I will attempt to give an explanation.

On friday we received the new server details, however unbeknown to me the server is located in France. When I set the Server OS up, I had no idea it was in french and as I am a little impatient, stopped and restarted the process numerous times.

When we eventually got remote desktop access, the server was in french and tbh I could not understand a word, this caused considerable amusement between Satdish and Wheelie, and I was the subject of a lot of mickey taking all over the weekend on our voice comms Ventrilo.

We have now moved and everything seems to be working, apart from the stats program which we have to correct, apart from that we did really well.

      Welcome to our new server!

If you had lowered the TTL on your DNS records in advance you could in theory move everyone over to the new server in an hour or less, but you would need to be able to change the TTL on the records on the old DNS servers (you might not have that access though possibly).

Once you have lowered the TTL, DNS servers would cache the old records pointing at the old server for less time and would get the newer records pointing at the new server quicker.

the auto DNS is now picking up the new server. The DNS on teh holding page stopped working for me last night (for the whole net).

I'm back on auto detect DNS.
