To me it looks like alot of new connections are being setup as G.DMT and not ADSL2+ modulation, I belive the 416 up is standard for the LLU none max product. My guess is connections that wont go over 8000odd are being conected as G.DMT and not ADSL2+, which is a shame because you should see slighty higher speeds via adsl2, even bellow 8000.

Activated today on Max, here are my stats:

Connection Speed 3744 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 62.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 8.6 db 14.0 db

So if everyone recntly added and below 8mbps is on G.DMT, then the only reason to spend the extra 5 a month for max is to get the unlimited download allowance. However for most people the mid 40gb a month is plenty. Hmmm I wonder if I can switch to mid?

Mart - actually i spoke to Sky yesterday (i actually only joined yesterday, but found that my speeds are really very low - 300kbps downloads, 416kbps upload).

They mentioned that i could drop down to the Mid or even Base products, but would have to do it soon, otherwise it would be 'locked' at the Max for the remainder of the year.

If you tell them you're not happy and are having consistent probs - i'm sure they'd switch you to the Mid package!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6016 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 13.0 db

This is on my own Netgear DG834GT router, rather than the Sky one.
Well, my router dropped its connection and when it re-connected -

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6560 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 14.0 db

Definitely looks like something major has changed, with that change in Downstream Line Attenuation, the correct upload speed and my best download speeds yet. Perhaps I, as people have guessed, have moved from ADSL1 to ADSL2?

Mine has also just reconnected with 768 up, however it's still using G.DMT. I'd guess your slighty higher sync rate is more to do with SNR than a change from G.DMT to ADSL2, they have simply changed it so the LLU up to 8mbit is giving us a 768 up instead of 416.

I've been doing some reading up, and from what i've seen if your downstream att is higher than 50db then ADSL2+ wont really be any faster than ADSL.

nitram, with an att like that you should be seeing more like 8000 sync on ADSL and 10mbit+ on ADSL2+, I would check your internal wiring because my guess is your have a noise issue.

Thanks, I'll try and look at it although that's easier said than done! It's an ancient phone line without a master socket! I am connected at the very top of the house, so connecting it downstairs may be worth a look. Also,I think I'll have trouble persuading Sky to look at low download speeds as they reckon I'll only get 4.5mbps absolute tops!
