Well I was connected on Friday and despite Sky quoting 4.5mbps absolute max and other sites suggesting 10-12mbps I'm getting between 5 and 6, but the 416kbps upload problem is there...

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6016 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 13.0 db

This is on my own Netgear DG834GT router, rather than the Sky one.

I have been suffering the same poor upload speed (also think they have put me on the mid package as well). I emailed tech support and got the following response.

      Dear James

Thank you for your email, I am sorry to hear that your upload speed is lower
      than what you would expect.

We have had a current technical issue with some of our Max customers and
there upload speeds, and you are correct in stating that you should have an
      upload speed of around 716kbps.

We are expecting this update to go through this Friday, and you should not
have to do anything further, however if you still have not seen an
improvement by next Monday then please contact us again so that we can
      further troubleshoot your problem.

Alternatively, our Technical Support Lines are open twenty-four hours a day.
You can call us on 08705 515 515, option 1, then option 3, and our Customer
Advisors can help you over the phone. (It is recommended you call from your
broadband line, in case any line tests are required).

I hope this information is helpful.

      Kind regards

      Jason.
      Broadband Technical Support.

I am connected to the Atherton exchange nr Manchester, exchange code Lcath.
I get the feeling that it is as someone previously suggested that they have connected people to the mid package to get them on and then transfer them to the LLU at a later date as according to my router I am still on normal adsl, however my bt order tracker says the line was changed to LLU but prodigy networks states my line is a full shared adsl line!
See what happens on Friday then I guess.

Looks like the goal posts have changed. Just got this updated email.!

      Dear James

Thank you for your email, I am sorry to hear that your upload connection is lower than you expected.

We currently have an issue with some of our customers on the max package who are not receiving the 700Kbps, there is a fix that will be getting introduced in the next few weeks that will automatically reconfigure your upload speed so that you will be able to receive the full amount.

If you do not notice any difference then please contact us again, we will then escalate your technical issue with a view to resolving your issue.

Alternatively, our Technical Support Lines are open twenty-four hours a day. You can call us on 08705 515 515, option 1, then option 3, and our Customer Advisors can help you over the phone. (It is recommended you call from your broadband line, in case any line tests are required).

I hope you find this information helpful.

      Kind regards

      Jason.

      Here's my reply:

Thank you for your email, I am sorry to hear your upload speed is lower than you would expect.

We are realising a patch that will change these setting for you in the next few weeks, and this will automatically increase your speed up to the amount that you where expecting (716 approx)

If you find that your upload speed has not been automatically increased then we will need you to contact us again so that we can escalate this for you to the appropriate department.

Alternatively, our Technical Support Lines are open twenty-four hours a day. You can call us on 08705 515 515, option 1, then option 3, and our Customer Advisors can help you over the phone. (It is recommended you call from your broadband line, in case any line tests are required).

That's an incredibly good connection for your attenuation - what's the problem?

If you're disappointed in your connection speed then, sorry, but you're at the limits of current technology. ADSL connection speed is limited by a number of things, attenuation is the key one. Basically your line is too long to get higher speeds. That's why Sky and other ISPs sell their services as up to xMb.

If you're unhappy because your connection is erratic then this is probably because of the remarkable connection speed you are achieving. I suspect your connection is generating a lot of errors and this may affect browsing and actual download speeds. I don't suppose you want to hear this but the only fix for this is to ask Sky to cap your speed at a lower setting and/or possibly move you to ADSL1

PS. I think you missed the thread title

I got connected to the Max package yesterday and my line stats are:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.0 db 16.0 db
Noise Margin 17.8 db 14.0 db

I thought that with stats like this I should expect both a greater download speed and upload speed. Tried to contact Sky but they won't even talk to me until 3 days have passed since installation.

If anyone can shed any light on this for me, I'd be very grateful. I don't want to be palmed off by Sky if I should be getting more!!

      Hi Jonathan

Loads of people have reported this problem, but then reported back that it has been sorted. Give them the 3 days then ring them and make sure you use the freephone number.
