      Happy New Year for 2016

Just a quick message to wish everyone here, or on holiday, a wonderful time for 2016

from all the staff on SkyUser

2015 has been another year that has seen a range of developments with Sky's products. 2016 promises many more.

We've seen improvements to the various apps. The Sky+ HD EPG has developed further still. NowTV has expanded with a new NowTV box available and the app being made available on further products. Sky Go has improved greatly over the past year, with further developments on the horizon. ...and much more.

In early 2016 we'll see the full launch of the new Sky Q product range. The new Sky Q Hub promises to support better WiFi and 1Gbit Ethernet. The Sky Q TV products will support something better that 'Planner Sharing'. Later in the year Sky are looking to launch their 4K UHD service. There are also many more improvements currently being developed for the Sky+ HD STB range.

Re: Happy New Year for 2016

Happy New Year to eveyone on skyuser!

Saw skyq in action just before Christmas.
Will be involved in some third party app dev for it too in early 2016 (lips sealed!)
Not sure its really what I will want at home. Well not at the premium price so it will be sky+hd box still for me along with sky+/sky go apps.
      As for 4k, yawn!
We are not really a multiscreen home either, so that skyq change is lost on us.

Only thing Id like to see sky do is as a priority for those many who use skygo on windows, is remove the silverlight element and have a universal app. It will will be so welcome.
Not relevant for me as I use skygo on Android and iOS and enjoy the ongoing it seems beta testing of those platfroms sky apps. Just I do get fed up wth sorting silverlight/skygo problems out for many windows users.
Having managed enterprise and many broadcasting back end silverlight based systems 7-10 years ago, it was painful but powerful then, but sky should have moved on from it now.

Plenty of good new and additional series coming up on sky for next year, plenty of sport and still on a great reduced deal till autumn next year, so will be happy with sky in 2016.
Landline phone was one thing for us in 2015 that has now gone (we actually unplugged the physical phone just before christmas, not that wed had a call on it for a good while) and with half price landline (openreach broadband tax) and free broadband it all works out well.

Re: Happy New Year for 2016

Silverlight is very much on the cards now since Firefox is already in the process of wiping it out too.

Sky have been slow to move in order to remove it. As a result they have a page listing the browsers that do and do not support Silverlight/Sky Go.

Sky Q looks really interesting. It will shake up the broadcasting industry. Ok 4K isn't for everyone, but then it took a long time for some to adopt HD and there are many out there who are still happy to watch SD content. Personally I love HD but don't currently have the money for another new TV.

Happy New Year to everyone. Just finished sending New Year messages to Australia where the celebrations have largely finished.

Doesn't it spark your curiosity, just a little bit?
I hope it doesn't turn out to be another "flash in the pan" like 3D.

Not really. To be honest I seldom bother downloading anything in HD. Unless its a nature program I don't think it matters if you watch in SD, its the story that counts for me, not the picture. I don't have much interest in counting the wrinkles on the heroines face or the grey hairs in the heroes beard.
