Is it possible to check from the IP addresses whether the attackers are from any particular country?

This in part has been done. One of the challenges with the attack has been getting into the system to identify who to block.

All of south east asia is usually a good place to start, along with eastern Europe and Russia.

Considering that the Chinese government allegedly block access to many western websites it is a shame that they don't block malware and other nasties travelling in the opposite direction.

      Re: Painfully sloooooooooooow.

I don't wish to post too much about what has been done as whoever is doing this might just pick up the news and change tactics to compensate.

It does appear that they have been trying to force through a known security flaw, but this was blocked so what they are trying doesn't work any more. Unfortunately they appear not to understand this an continue to keep trying.

As for identifying the source, yes some of the traffic has now been blocked, but I'm not sure how much more is quickly identifiable.

Should they be using a VPN service which although unlikely is possible, then that in effect would also mean that anyone else using the same VPN services in future could be blocked.

      Re: Painfully sloooooooooooow.

The odd thing was that I was invited this morning to fill in a Sky user questionnaire and I gave up after about a minute of waiting for any web page to emerge, so I wonder if the attack might be a little wider, could you check with any Sky it man?

      Cheers

Is it too early to say it works fine now?

      Shhhh....

Thankfully the visitor count is back down to a 'normal' level.

We are sorry if this has hampered anyone's enjoyment when visiting the forum. Hopefully they have decided to move on.
