    Slow Speeds Anyone ?

This is a discussion on Slow Speeds Anyone ? within the Website news forums, part of the SkyUser Announcements category; It would definitely appear to be Connect and 90.194 related, this is been looked at. Not ideal we appreciate, but ...

Are you in contact with Sky Newsreader, because if you are please keep us updated. It hasn't been to bad for me as strangely I can still access certain sites when I can't others, and I can't access my online banking either.

I agree wholeheartedly with what Alan is saying.

Today has been the most frustrating day since transferring to Sky (transferred on 17 October) - throughout the day, there have been at least 20 times when I have been unable to connect to the internet (and when I have successfully connected, the number of times that I have been 'dropped' is about the same).

I've been trying to log into my Paypal account since 8pm tonight with no joy - it appears that Sky are having problems with https pages (I logged into Paypal on my works laptop using AT&T dialler).

In addition to this, my son has been unable to log onto MSN Messenger since this afternoon.

My exchange has been showing RED since 9th October, however, between that date & the date I moved over to Sky BB I didnt have a single issue with accessing anything on the web.

I was really looking forward to moving to Sky, but with hindsight, I wish I'd have stayed with my previous provider even thought it was 13 per month more than my current "Connect" (I bet Sky are now wishing they'd called it "CIYL - Connect If You're Lucky").

My IP at the moment is in a different range and i get slow speeds almost all the time.

My exchange is Red but the fix date is after my estimated move to Max package..

So i guess i'll probably be stuck with a bad connection until i move over.... unless of course the move to Max is delayed...

Previously i had a 1mb AOL connection with all most perfect stability.

I can imagine that the ADSL network was previously just about, if at all, good enough to cope with the load. Now with Sky boosting loads of people upto 8mb, it may well have just tipped the system over the edge in certain areas.

Having checked a number of exchanges experiencing problems, the majority have an ETA for fixing the problems by 3 Nov - thats 4 days ago!

I agree with SteCole in that I reckon Sky's massive rollout has flooded capacity for most of the country. There are 2 aspects to this - firstly that existing broadband users are [supposedly ] getting a considerable speed boost, thus using up more bandwidth. Also I'm sure that there must be a whole load of new users on broadband.

Our Sky Max service is t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e.

It constantly stops working and insists none of us are connected to the internet, then springs back to life minutes or hours later. Sometimes we have to reset the router. Even when it does work, it certainly isn't running at 10 or 16Mbps (whichever it's supposed to be). Frankly, it's a joke and we're seriously considering junking the whole thing in and going elsewhere. How can Sky contractually tie people to an internet service that doesn't work?

We're on the Waverly exchange in Edinburgh. Apparently, the exchange capacity has been in the red since September. The ETA Fix Time is 8th November - tomorrow.

Here's hoping for a miraculous improvement...

It certainly has, as I haven't seen these problems anymore.

The sky guy on the phone asked me to try bbc.co.uk which timed out first try, second try it worked, but it is very very sporadic, sometimes it will work and other times it wont, I am well out of the ADSL max training period and havent had timeout problems with sky until now. shame real shame
The HTTPS problem could be to do with Internet explorer settings.......... but its likely occuring because of the amazing Sky DNS server

      Click start,
      Control panel,
      Network connections,
Using Ethernet? Right click on Lan Connection or Local area connection
Using Wireless? Right click on the wireless internet connection
      Choose properties,
On the properties window, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
When selected, click the properties button you see underneath,
Change DNS to "Use the following DNS address's"
      Primary DNS address = 212.135.1.36
      Alternate DNS = 195.40.1.36
Click OK, then click on close to close the network connection properties.

You should now be able to access HTTPS again.

If this still fails check your IE settings, or find a more stable DNS server address from here. DNS Address's

      Good luck.
