Outrageous email from Freedom2Surf about Sky.

My son who asked F2S for a Mac Code, Got the following email from F2S..
As a Ex F2S subcriber my self for a few years, I could be forgiven thinking that some of the remarks could well be directed, to Pipex F2S's parent company..

      -----------------------------E-MAIL---------------------------------------

      Account Name: xxxxxxxx

Thank you for your email. I will certainly provide your Mac code, but
before I do, I would like you to be 100% sure that you wish to migrate to
Sky. As a retention agent, I investigate different providers, and thought
that you may be interested in what I have found, so that you are fully
aware of their terms/conditions and about their service before you sign
      that contract with them.
It appears that Sky are cheap for a reason:

1)Sky lock you into a 12 month contract " what happens if you are
unhappy with their service " do you have no choice but to stay with them
until the contract ends, or are you charged a leaving fee to leave early?

2)Sky traffic shape " this means that they give priority to
netsurfers, compressing downloads making them slower than what they should be.?" so you will notice a difference in performance.

      3) Sky have taken over Easy net " who are not the most reputable
broadband supplier on the market.?" however I am unsure what they are
like now that sky have taken over.

      4) Sky have only just been introduced to the broadband market " so
are unlikely to have great knowledge/experience in the industry.

5)Check how much download you have " as some of their packages
will have a usage policy?" will the download amount be sufficient for
      your needs?

      6) Check if they are going to charge a set up (depending on what
package you are going onto) they can charge a set up fee?" even with a
      migration.

7)Sky broadband is NOT compatible with Outlook express, as they do
not offer a pop3 mailbox with their service, only a web based mail account
?" therefore you will also be unable to do things such as online banking
as you need a pop3 account to do so.

Looking at your account, you are currently paying xxxxxxx I would suggest
we move you to our 14.99 package as you are not using that much download
This change in package will result in a 5 saving monthly!

I look forward to your reply.
      Kind Regards
      Lisa M

I recieved an identical email from Nildram when I requested my MAC.

Looks like it is the standard canned response from Pipex / Pipex companies ...

      Point 7 is incorrect anyway.
Point 2 is not actually known. No users have noticed traffic shaping trends.
Point 5 - unlimited for 10 per month - i don't know of any other isp that matches this.

      The others are debateable anyway

I could not resist answering her email.....

      DISGRACEFUL piece of propergander

The email you sent my son, after he asked for a Mac Code is nothing short of wishfull thinking on the behalf of F2S (Pipex)

Lets put a view things straight...
      1) "Sky lock you into a 12 month contract ?" what happens if you are unhappy with their service ?"

Simple you leave, be it 2 months/ 4 months into the contract, all you have to do is pay up the remainder of the contract, at 5 x 10 = 50 or 5 x 8 = 40
save that in two months over F2s prices..

      2) Traffic shaping

I've not noticed any..but at 14.96 Mb I wouldnt..F2S traffic shape, (line throttle) don't deny it.

      3) Sky have taken over Easynet, not the most reputable broadband supplier...

Ha ha.. I find that funny considering Pipex reputation.

      4) Sky have only just been introduced to the broadband market ?" so are unlikely to have great knowledge/experience in the industryowledge/experience in the industry

So when is F2s going to put their great knowledge to work then, and sort out the email fiasco.

      5) Check how much download you have" as some of their packages
will have a usage policy ?" will the download amount be sufficient for your needs?

F2S have Caps on downloads, as well.

      6) Check if they are going to charge a set up (depending on what package you are going onto)
they can charge a set up fee ?" even with a migration

True I can not argue with that one so far your correct 1 out of 6

7)Sky broadband is NOT compatible with Outlook express, as they do
not offer a pop3 mailbox with their service, only a web based mail account
?" therefore you will also be unable to do things such as online banking
as you need a pop3 account to do so.

Out right Lie...This very email is sent with outlook express
all you have to do is enter... pop.sky.co / smtp.sky.com

So you got 1 point right out of 7 remarks...hardly an email to assure those that are looking to leave, its worth staying.

and yes I was a F2S subscriber for over 2 years, until August this year, and have not regetted leaving..

      Regards

      xxxxxx xxxx ex F2S

From what I've read on the Skyuser boards, Point number 4 is pretty valid.

True, sky have a lot to learn...but F2S (Pipex) seemed to have learnt nothing themselves with all their experience..

I think most Isp's need to try to constantly keep improving their services, but most don't and that is why they are losing customers. Thousands of people are moving across to the Sky packages and I've never heard of any counter attack plans from any of the main ISP's to try and keep customers using their services.

It sounds like they are not bothered.

when i rang aol for mac code i was also warned not to go with sky.
not to the extent of the above e mail, but i was told that sites like p2p dont work and a couple of other things (cant remember ) that started me wondering if i was doing the right thing, only time will tell, so far its not as bad as i expected.
my friend gave the best answer to aol when asked why he was leaving.
beacuse its free, they had no response
