PlusNet Customer Gets A Webwise Invitation

Although Plusnet have always stated that Phorm would not be implemented on their network, it would appear that someone, somewhere has made a schoolboy error on the configuration of BT's Network and the implementation of Webwise.

A PlusNet subscriber was surprised this morning to be invited to join Phorm's latest "WebWise" targeted advertising trial, despite assurances that only BT's own customers would be asked for permission to intercept their web browsing.
PlusNet customer invited to opt-in to BT's Phorm trial ? The Register

For those of you who don't know, BT own Plusnet, and BT are currently trialling Webwise, which is supposedly to stop phishing sites, being presented in your browser if using it.

As we all know, most browsers, have this built in anyway, and the the real purpose of Webwise, imho, is to gain the ISP money, from targeted adverts. Although looking at the BT invitation page, it imho, paints a different story.

Sky have so far, not definitively ruled out any partnership with Phorm,

“Sky is interested in exploring the potential for targeted online advertising and we’re talking with a number of companies operating in this area. Of paramount importance is the online safety of our customers and we’ll only implement a solution when we can use customer data in a responsible way which safeguards privacy.”
Phorm and Sky Broadband - Would you stay or go?

Although PlusNet have now openly admitted that this was a genuine configuration error, it begs the question, 'Is anyone safe from Phorm or BT Webwise, whilst using BT's network to obtain broadband?'
