      SkyUser hits 20,000 Members

At 18.47 today, 15th February 2008, SkyUser signed up their 20,000th Member. The honour of being the 20,000th Member goes to sellik67.

Since the initial discussions myself and Newsreader (Ged) had on 3rd August 2006, we have far exceeded what we thought was ever possible, by about 200 times.

Our discussions were all about a place, people could go to receive help and support for Sky Broadband. Our original target for members (or what we were expecting to achieve) to sign up was 100 and we would have been chuffed to bits to have achieved this figure.

Now, just over 18 months later we have absolutely smashed that target, and have a website full of people who just want to help others or be helped.

We, again would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to:

All our moderators, Gary, Simon, Mark, Colin, Hugsie, Ray, Barry, Peter, Adam, Mikey, Tezcatlipoca, and our latest recruit Richard. They have stuck with us since the first time they joined SkyUser as members, through thick and thin and are always the first to try to help members as they need it.

A thank you also to all you guys and gals who have signed up to SkyUser and made this website what it is today. A special thanks to all those members who have spent their time developing and making tutorials. These have helped thousands of people over the last 18 months.

Thank you to the Official and Unofficial Sky staff. Officially, thank you for the feedback and information that has been given to us over this time. Hopefully we can improve this between SkyUser and yourselves.

As for the Unofficial Sky Staff, a special thank you to you guys and girls as well. Although you risk the sack for helping on here, you still do so, and you have certainly given us some cracking information over time. Sometimes a little too much information, in Sky's eyes.

I would also like to say on behalf of all our members, a special thank you to Gary, aka Saturday. Gary has to be the most helpful member any forum could have, and has helped thousands since joining us, and it is a the pleasure to have him working on SkyUser with us.

From day one, all we have ever wanted is to give our members everything they need to help themselves whilst using Sky Broadband. As we began to grow we incorporated the whole family of Sky products, and plan to develop other projects over the next 12 months or so.

What we have already achieved in the last few months of development:

      • SkyUser Speed Tester
      • New CMS for News etc on the Home Page/s
      • New websites for SkyUser Radio and TeamSkyUser
      • Two brand new Dedicated Quad Core Xeon Servers
      • Added an SMTP server so our members can use their own email on Sky Broadband

We are currently developing the SkyUser Cashback site for our members to receive money back on products they may wish to purchase. This will take a few months to develop but plans are on their way, and at the moment we have kicked this off in our forums.

As for the issue of what we could do to celebrate the 20,000th member, we have decided to donate 200 to a Charity nominated by our members. We will allow suggestions for different ones over the next 7 days, and then do a Poll on all these nominated ones to determine the chosen benefactor.

Once again THANK YOU to everybody, for getting involved and making this website, unique, and the place to go for help and advice for everything Sky.

      Glenn and Ged

      Re: SkyUser hits 20,000 Members

Yes congrats you guys. An excellent job well done and a massively imformative and helpful forum. It's just such a shame that so many need it to get them going.

I have to say that considering Sky have a million or so internet subscribers and not all the members come here for internet advice so I suppose 20k is not a massive amount out of that subscriber figure. Even so it would be nice if all the ISPs remembered who pays their wages and were just a tad more helpful.

Anyway fellas well done again and huge thanks for one, if not the, best technical forum on the net IMO.

Congratulations to everyone involved with SkyUser. It didn't seem that long ago that we were reading about the 10,000th member to sign up and probably will not be that long before the figure hits 30,000.

This site really is now the first port of call for all things Sky.

LOL I wrote it for him, we were trying to write it as soon as we saw the 20,000th member registering

Don't worry we are celebrating tonight with copious amounts of alcohol. Friday night traditions don't fade easily.

Thankfully, Glenn lost his HD and all his wonderful music on it (Well worth the 25 we sent to Uri Geller)
