      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

To answer some of the queries that we have received.

Do you store or read our emails?
      • We do not store your email on our servers, once sent.
      • We do not intercept or view any of your emails whatsoever.

How long will it take to setup?

      • Normally same day authorisation, please remember that we work and so maybe at work when your application is received, they will be processed asap

Why do you insist on people using the Contact Us page to apply for an SMTP Account?

      • Purely and simply, it gives us your Forum Username and Sky BB IP address, so we know that you are definitely a member of SkyUser and a Sky Broadband Customer. If you are on a different ISP's IP we will email you on your Sky.com email address, that you should provide if not on Sky BB, at the time that you ask us to setup an SMTP account.

Where will I find my Username and Password for this SMTP Service?
      • Once you have contacted us, we will send you a PM (Private Message) to your forum account.

Any further queries will be added and answered here.

That's a pretty fair answer. Should go a long way to help matters.
Glad to see someone is prepared to go the extra mile.

      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

Please remember when you apply for an SMTP account to give us your Forum Username and a Password you wish to use.

Without these details we cannot setup your account.

We are awaiting on about 5 people who have registered to provide this information, before we can authorise you. We have emailed those who have applied but not provided this information.

      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

Could everyone who wants to use this service please follow the instructions that we have provided in the first post.

Any problems with the SMTP server or to apply for an SMTP account, please contact us using this form, letting us know your forum username and don't forget to supply a password that you wish to use, one that is not used for anything else.
This service has been far more popular than the Poll indicated and we are spending too much time chasing up people who have not followed these instructions.

If you have applied for an SMTP account and not yet had it activated, there are only two reasons possible.

      1) You have not followed the instructions, and we are awaiting further contact from you. Everyone who has not provided the information requested, will not get activated until you do so.

      2) We physically have not had the chance to process the applications.

Depending on the scenario above, this is the reason why. If you have followed the instructions, rest assured the accounts will be activated asap. If you haven't provided the required info, then please follow the instructions above.

There is absolutely no point in PMing (Private Messaging) us, as that does not capture your IP address, and so we cannot verify that you are on Sky Broadband.

As from today, until Saturday 23rd February, no applications will be processed before 6.30pm on a working day, so please be patient.

      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

I hope this gets noticed by the powers that run things here just to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for enabaling me to sort out sending emails with our old ISP pop account. Working fine for us now. All we have to do now is get Sky to somehow allocate us a sky.com email address ( yes unbelievable never had a welcome letter with username and password or anything!). Anyway thanks again.

      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

      I echo the thanks

I have now got this running on my mac

However I get the following error message when sending

Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificate issued to "mail.skyusermail.com". The error was:

The root certificate for this server could not be verified.

You might be connecting to a computer that is pretending to be "mail.skyusermail.com", and putting your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway?"

I can ignore it and continue with the e-mail being sent. It is a minor irritation. Any ideas on how to stop it happening

      thanks

      jonathan

      Re: SkyUser SMTP Server Live

I think I have it sorted

      for all other mac users

      from Tiger's Mail (v 2,1,3) Help:

Mail can't verify my mail server's root certificate
If your mail server uses an SSL certificate that is signed by an unknown authority (such as a self-signed certificate), Mail displays a message indicating that it can't verify the identity of the mail server, because it can't verify the server's root certificate. Although you can connect to the mail server, Mail will continue to warn you about the server's unverified root certificate each time you open Mail. To stop the message from appearing, you need to add the mail server's root certificate to your X509Anchors keychain.

First, click Show Certificate and determine if you have the root certificate:

If the certificate is identified as a root certificate, the icon has a gold border, and the red alert says it is not in the trusted root database, you have the root certificate and can proceed.
If the certificate is not identified as a root certificate, the icon has a blue border, and the red alert says the certificate was signed by an untrusted issuer, you do not have the root certificate. Contact the issuer (identified in the certificate) and ask for the server's root certificate. Typically, you'll receive a certificate file.
Then, add the root certificate to your X509Anchors keychain.

      To add the root certificate:
Drag either the certificate from the message dialog or, if you had to request the root certificate, the certificate file, to your computer's desktop.
Double-click the certificate to display the Add Certificates dialog from Keychain Access.
Choose X509Anchors from the pop-up menu and click Add.
When prompted, enter the name and password of an administrator of your computer.
