I will use these two for comparisons both for my speed and confirming the quality of each others results
I found the same: Gadget show 10713 down, 649 up.

Sky user: 9792 down, 578 up. This is lower than I get with Namesco (always between 10 - 11M down) and thinkbroadband (consistently 10.3M down and 0.6M up). My sync has been consistent now for over 200 hours at 12446 down.

      Well something has recently changed.

Before, The files were coming from the Five website, Now they seem to be loading from lon.speedtest.net.

Seems to be slightly more accurate now, But I wonder if because they have acknowledged the mistake and corrected it, Wether the previous speedtests will count or will they be voided?

      I do wonder!

      Re: Gadget Show Speed Tester

Well I hope that they do 2 things:

      1) Disregard all results up until changing servers

      2) Apologise on the next show for their incompetence and lack of understanding of how Broadband works etc.

Seriously, how on earth can you present a set of results that are so flawed?

Maybe their researchers should have actually researched, and thought about the fact that maybe a few thousand people might just click on that link at the same time.

Maybe it was part of the team that decided to implement the new email in a day last week?

I suspect the five.tv webmaster screamed at someone to get it off his servers, as it was effecting much of their site. I doubt the production crew will correctly filter the results, however.

I have to agree with NewsreadeR once more, they need to apologise for the way they presented the story and disregard the speed tests. However it's a tricky subject to cram into a four minute piece.

They completely missed the point in my mind. BT's rate adaptive 'up to 8mb' product prices are set by Ofcom an industry regulator. That is until LLU take up reaches a certain level. Other countries may be getting faster and cheaper services, but in the main that is because the government has funded the infrastructure.

They want users to ring their ISPs and complain, when in many cases, there is nothing they can do about the wire that goes into the users premises.

The whole piece showed a fundamental misunderstanding of the subject.

      Re: Gadget Show Speed Tester

My speeds were spot on so no conspiracy theory. I am with Virgin and I would not trust a speed tester from any of the service providers.

The Sky tester showed speeds of 8mb and the Gadget show showed speeds of 9.3mb and I have a 10mb package with Virgin.

I think some of the posters on here actually work for Sky and other broadband providers. It is about time OFCOM puts an end to this "up to speed" advertised by Broadband companies.

      @Mikey

The Gadget Show Speed Tester is now run by Thinkbroadband, the date this thread was originally started it wasn't and was most definitely useless.
