Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

Sky User have today emailed the Red Arrows, provisionally booking The Red Arrows to perform in the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics.

To whom it may concern

On behalf of Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! we would like to book the Red Arrows for a display over the London Olympic Games in 2012, for the opening ceremony.

As an avid fan of The Red Arrows, I would love for you to make this possible for us and the rest of the United Kingdom. As for the reports of the Red Arrows being too British, I would say you are an inspiration to those of us that are UK residents and your displays are truly breath taking.

I know we are 5 years too early, but our website would like to be the first public website to book you for this event. This would allow us 5 years to find the funds and then launch an appeal to pay for it.

I have posted this on our blog here, and would love to receive the confirmation that you will attend asap

Regards on behalf of all our members

If you have no luck you can sponsor my radio control plane. I will even put your logo on the wings free of charge.

Just have to dig it out of the ground but I'm sure it will work.

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

I don`t think being to `British` is so much a problem so much as the `PC` crowd being worried about them being to military.
Would love to see them open games though as at least there`d be a reason to watch then

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

Well we ain't going to take NO for an answer, we want them there and we will pay for them to be there with other people's help

But you're right, its crazy that something so Iconic for the UK is not already booked to attend. Well they are now

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

Stick me down for a couple of quid, the wife grew up with her dad being in the RAF as a helicoper maintence seargent and so we'll support them.

Sorry it can't be any more cash, my dreams of paying off the mortgage were blown out this week when I got voted off in the 1st round of Golden Balls that I was in.

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

Thanks for the offer Adrian, all helps if it secures the Red Arrows for the Display.

Looking at their website, we are probably too early.

It would appear the cost is approx 2K inc vat as at 2000, so to allow for inflation I reckon we say about 4K.

A standard charge to display organisers for a Red Arrows' display was introduced for the first time in 1977 - £200. In 2000 the standard charge is £2,000 including VAT and mandatory insurance. The money does not, and never did, come to the Red Arrows! It goes into MOD funds.

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

I'm in too, it's just so bloody typical of this government to do something like this.

If they are worried about things being too militaristic, stop the things that cause people to be offended by our military. We are not the 51st state of George Bushes America.

Re: Red Arrows booked for the London Olympics?

Put me down for a few quid too.

Grew up on RAF bases, and as for the Red arrows being too British, were dragons too chinese when the games were held in china.
