» About Skyuser.co.uk

Here you will find out about how we started and why we started and our goals for the future of skyuser.co.uk

How we started and how we have progressed

After the announcement that Sky will be offering discounted Broadband to their existing customers Glenn (SatDish) and Ged (NewsreadeR) decided they would make the move to Sky Broadband as and when they could and also offer somewhere for Sky Broadband users to go.

Ged found a suitable host and Glenn bought the domain Skyuser.co.uk, and after many hours and many drinks skyuser.co.uk was born and went live in the early hours of 3rd August 2006. Our forum as it stands today, was officially opened on 5th August 2006.

December 13th 2006 - We launched our new look website (the one you can see now), this has been designed for us exclusively and custom coded to integrate into our forum software.

December 18th 2006 - We received sponsorship of a brand new high specification dedicated server from Amenworld a subsidary of Clara.net This is a major step forward and lays the foundations for SkyUser to grow and offer better facilities for our members and visitors. Amenworld provide dedicated servers as well as hosting websites for everyone. More details here

June 20th 2007 - We received sponsorship of a 24 player BF2142 Clan Server / Ventrilo Voice Server from Multiplay.co.uk This allows us to build a bigger and better gaming community within SkyUser.

December 2007 - SkyUser purchase 2 Dedicated High Specification servers, we are no longer dependent on being sponsored for providing a webhosting service. These two new servers allow us to serve faster content as well as bringing online several Games servers. These servers are paid for through selling our advertising space. All current portals enter into Beta, SkyUser, SkyUser Radio and Team SkyUser. Hopefully being completed by February 2008. The new CMS allows us to do so much more and offer greater opportunities to interact as a community.

A home for users

As SkyUser grows, so will the range that we have to offer, we have already invested in scripts and will continue to invest and bring improvements in the future. We are always working hard on the website to improve the experience for our users and we welcome your comments on such improvements, that we can implement here on SkyUser.

After only 2 years, our membership base stands at over 30,000 with 475,385 visits recorded in October 2008. We are averaging over 35 new members per day. In this time we have truly established ourselves as the place to go for information, discussion and general chat about Sky Broadband as well as other Sky products.

According to Alexa the Traffic Rank for SkyUser is: 83,715 which has increased over 3,629,384 places since going live.

SkyUser is not officially recognised by Sky and we would like to remain independent. However, representatives from Sky Broadband do visit the website, and are beginning to show signs of acting on feedback.

Our goal is to get the staff to come and join our community to offer a more detailed discussion of what their service has to offer and to quell any concerns users may have about any of Sky's products including Sky Broadband.

The community

The staff at SkyUser want our users to enjoy our website and what the community has to offer. To ensure this we have a group of experienced moderators who are there to not only keep the forums running smoothly and abuse free, but also to help the users with any problems that may arise whilst using our website.

We will always and continue to put SkyUser users first.
