RE-ADSL2 looks promising but the big catch seems to be with cross-talk so I dont think BT will allow it.

Does anyone know if crosstalk is a non issue once BT roll out 21CN?

From memory of a talk BT did at UKNOF they gave no indication of using RE-ADSL2. However it'll be 2009 before 21CN hits the streets and thats assuming the Cardiff trial goes well.

      No sir,
21CN network is being rolled out as we speak, they suggest that by the end of 2007, 50% of the uk will be on a 21CN network.

This however will not effect anyone at all. - Its all about their infrastructure, thr cables that run from the bt boxes to your house will not be affected, its just that once it gets to the little green box at the end of your road, it will be converted to voip (or simular) and transported over a twister pair type network cabling structure or a fibre optic link.

The fun will really start when BT plan to stick Dslam's in the green junction box, when should mean that everyone will be ~500m from their 'exchange'.

However lots of users have suggested this will not happen until 2009 - 2011, by which time adsl2 will be totally outdated, and such 24 meg broadband is be slow and useless.

I personally cannot wait, im just about as far away as you can get, currently connecting at around 500k down.

Interesting. So lines will be upgraded from green box to exchange? Our exchange has 21cn planned for Q3 2008

This makes a good read re 21CN:- Components in Electronics - CIE

Looks like fibre to the green boxes over the next 10 years and in the meantime, the use of ADSL extenders which I'd never heard of.

Re: Range Extended ADSL2 and 21CN?

21CN is so far a failure only 1 call has been made over the 21CN by that girl that made the news. 1 millon calls has been made over BT internals phone system. I work for Openreach and I spoke to someone in a exchange that had worked on the Cardiff exchange. Complete rollout of 21CN will be long in to the next decade.
On to the DSLAMS in cabs that will only happen when the meetings over VDSL (Very high bit rate DSL)are sorted, Then BT have to plan to provide FTC (fiber to cab) and place more cabs around areas as some cabs can be a good couple of KM's away. Then we will see fast download speeds of up to 50meg and within 5-10 years develpoment should see double that speeds. Most over countries have VDSL already.
Japan already have 50MB connections but its alot easier to provide cable as most buildings housr many familys so they run a fiber line to the bottom then they have there own mini exchange at the bottom of the appartment block.
Another problem is that the BT Network is not all Copper alot of Aluminum still exist's within the network (although we are told there is none) and some older cable is still out there.
Another problem is that there are crimps on the network called Blue Bean crimps which have a high resistance and cause faults on the network and we are told to replace them whenever we come across them.

      Kut...

I can tell you for a fact that in Cheltenham if you live near the Galagher Retail park you stand a good chance of having aluminium wires.
BT basically have told him tough!!

I've got a friend who's stuck on dial up because of this. We have to be careful around him when we talk about 5.5meg connections
