My cabinet is Huawei, is the HG612 3B correct?

I am going to change from Virgin Media to Sky Fibre Unlimited within the next month.

I have read quite a bit of information on these forums.

I have found out the information about my local exchange, the cabinet number that serves my address, and worked out roughly where it is.

The cabinet is listed as Huawei.

I currently have the Virgin SuperHub in Modem Mode going into a Netgear R7000 on DD-WRT kong.

I have read about buying a BT Openreach Modem from ebay etc.

Because my cabinet is Huawei i have read information that it is best to get an HG612 3B version?

Is that correct? Or is there a better modem? Would the ECI one also work?

I read information about Huawei being Broadcom and the modem being Broadcom so its better.

I really do not want to use the Sky Hubs. And would prefer to use a BT Openreach Modem [or something similar] and my Netgear R7000 router.

      Thank you!

Either of the modems will work, but the HG612 has the advantage of being easily hacked. The ECI requires soldering skills. Although not now essential it is probably better to match the modem to your cabinet. Details on how to hack the modem can be found here - ::. Kitz - HG612 unlocking .::

Yes, the HG612 is the one you want, you can modify it and put updated/hacked firmware on it.

This is the setup I've had for some years now and is running flawlessly for me.

      Good luck!
