OK I added the pasv range to the router but still no luck. No schedule is in place. I tried allowing all incoming ports to the nas address and still get the connection timed out error in the canyouseeme site. I hate routers.

Sorry, just needed to get that out.

The only other thing that I can think of at the moment it to double check the IP Address on your NAS.

Have you set this manually on the NAS or are you using the Address Reservation feature on the router?

It's both manually set on the router and I've also added a reservation. I managed to successfully remotely administer the router from my 3g phone so it must be able to do something!

Would there be a problem with the nas going into a switch then to the router? The switch is unmanaged.

Re: Port forwarding not working and driving me mad.

There should be no issue with the switch.

I was trying to see if FileZilla could at least see your NAS, but sadly it is timing out.

If you have an Android phone, you may wish to install FtpCafe. I have found this to be a useful tool.

Perhaps someone who knows this NAS can chip on please?

The Synology NAS requires a lot of ports to be opened, more than the router can handle in fact. You have to pick what you want to do with it and open the necessary ports. You will find a full list for Synology products here -
Port Forwarding Ports List - PortForward.com

The actual ports you need for different applications can be found here-

You might also find something useful in this Synology tutorial.

Re: Port forwarding not working and driving me mad.

Right - managed to get hold of my sky username and password and have successfully connected a net gear dgnd3700v2. Same problem though - no ports apart from the remote management one are accessible. This is the same router I was using before I was forced onto sky so I know it worked before. I'm getting really hacked off with this.

Any advice really welcome before I call up sky and look at cancelling my contract.

Richard

Re: Port forwarding not working and driving me mad.

Well what do ya know - tried it this morning (restarted the router) and it's now working. No idea why but I don't care. Thanks for the advice - I just wish I could provide a solution to help any other peoplethat have the same problem.

A few years ago I had a prob with port Forwarding, turns out it was the netgear router,I can share your pain.It drove me mad for about a month,I decided to buy a tp link router and all my problems were cured as soon as I plugged it in.

Although it does not always tell you, quite a few routers need to be rebooted before changed settings take effect.

On the sagem 2504n router, this was addressed with the firmware update 6.14.6a4N_UNI.
(Not sure about 1a4N & 2a4N as i went from the old v5 firmware 5.23.1a4N straight to 6a4N_UNI.)

Beforehand, clicking 'apply' after making changes to some settings would fix them in the gui but not actually take effect until after a reboot.
I tested for this several times with dmz, mtu & other settings.
Now though, clicking apply brings up a 'this will cause a reboot' type message with the option to continue or decline.

btw Isitme.
Your profile info says sky hub sr102.
Have i missed something or are you beta testing?
