Slow Speed from SKY "Nothing more they can do"
Hello,
I joined sky about two weeks ago for broadband amd well not had the best speed experience. When I was with O2 and ADSL24 I was on a SNR of 3 and getting speeds of 10/11MB. Was great. (1.3 up)
(Line attenuation with o2 was 35DB (Moved to Orange BT-W for 4 days and it went to 38DB) then back to ADSL24 on rebranded o2 I was 38DB... (All with the same TP link router)
Since moving to sky my SNR is 7DB and Line 38DB with Sky router and 40DB with my TPLink.
With Sky router I get about 7.2MB and .7 Up. Called sky and they could do nothing for me. I went to my TP link, DMT my SNR down and now been running very happy past 3 days with .9, Yes .9 SNR. But I am only getting 8MB!
Looked in my sky and I was told my line can only handle 8.3 and .7 up.
I have not been very happy with sky not being able to do anything with the speed. Its not like my line cannot handle it as I have had 10/11 with O2/ADSL24 and I am getting 7! just 7 with SKY!!!! Being in my line of work (IT technician and Geek) 3MB drop is large. Plus the upload speed is very low.
Anything else can be done with my connection or does anyone know someone to talk to at sky to sort the speed out?

Your line is capped, which prevents your speed rising. All you can do is try to convince Sky to take the cap off your line, tell them you will accept the consequences if your line is unstable. It is not easy but some members have succeeded in this in the past. Its a case of getting the right agent.With Sky router I get about 7.2MB and .7 Up. Called sky and they could do nothing for me. As your line is capped you are not running at a true .9 NM, so the fact that it has been stable does not mean much.
Can't see your stats by the way, the graphic is too small.

In my experience if you lower your noise margin you will get the extra error's from being on a lower margin but not the extra speed ofc
Example
My line is Limited at 21950004 and by default it will sync in at that with around 8.3 db of margin
and at that margin i may get say 100 crc errors a day
If i force a 6db margin it will still sync in at 21950004 but i will get say 300 crc errors a day
more than that i have no idea but it does increase your error rate even if you dont get a higher sync

I will give them a call tomorrow.Talked to the people on Twitter and there was nothing they could do, And the lady I was talking to told me there was no cap on my line..... Not buying it!

Seems some Sky employees think bandwidth allowance when they hear 'cap'. Your line will be 'capped' on a profile, despite what anyone tells you.
Begs more the question why do they put people on their official forum and twitter that don't know their **** from their elbow?

Hello,
Just tweeted them again... Don't really want to call them. During the DLM I did get speeds up to 9MB!
Had to change from my TPlink router this morning as internet wasn't working and went from 8.1 with TP to .. 7.2 with sky router...
Fun ...

It's pointless tweeting them or via the helpforum. In my eyes, it's just Sky's way of putting some people in the firing line to handle complaints, NOT for fixing technical issues.
Ring them up for a better/quicker response - 08442410515.

I agree with User, some of the replies given by so called 'Knowledge' advisers are shocking.

On the phone now to SKY. They have told me there is nothing they can do and 2nd line will not take any notice of this cause I am between the 7-14MB. He is calling me back after rebooting his computer but he is sure there is nothing that can be done.
