FTTC router
Isn't the router for skys FTTC (Fibre) service the same as the current DSL router. (Sagem 2504n)
If so seems a bit silly they're sending out a new router to use with the FTTC connection when surely they could just re-flash the firmware on my existing box.

Re: FTTC router
They are physically identical but they have different firmwares.
The packaging is also different. With the ADSL only version you get a pair of microfilters and a single Ethernet cable. With the Fibre version you get no microfilters but you do get a pair of Ethernet cables.
Currently their system automatically adds a router when you order Fibre.
Personally I agree that it would make sense to just force a change in the firmware as the version sent out for fibre actually works on both Fibre and ADSL. This may be something which Sky will change in the future.

Re: FTTC router
Anyway to get them into a recovery/flashing mode?
Also does anyone have a Dump of the FTTC firmware...?
Once the FTTC goes live the DSL one is pretty much redundant so really don't care if I brick it.

Re: FTTC router
Currently there are no custom firmwares available for the Sagem 2504N.
The best advice would be to either sell it or piggyback it to your Fibre router. To get the setting to take though you will need to connect it to someone's ADSL Internet first. By piggybacking it you could cover any areas in your home that currently don't have any WiFi signal.

Re: FTTC router
It would be largely unsuitable for my network.
I currently run WPA2-Enterprise on my Primary SSID using a Zeroshell (freeradius) as the backend authentication server.
A bit overkill for home admittedly but I wanted to see if I could do it, also it did stop my housemates giving out the PSK.
I really must try setting up Freeradius on a linux box sometime so I can learn the config.

Re: FTTC router
You would need to connect them by ethernet or homeplug, the instructions can be found in Scubbie's guide.-
How to connect two Routers together
There is a method of connecting the older Sagems by wireless, but I don't know if it will work with the new ones.

Re: FTTC router
The link above does work, but members have found that the Sagem 2504N needs to be connected to the Internet in order to retain any customised settings.
Since you have Fibre now I would suggest that you see if you can take the router around a friend's home and connect it to their broadband. I don't know if you have to have it connected to a Sky connection or if any will do.

Re: FTTC router
I'll probably end up having my existing Router doing the routing and buy something else for a dual band AP.
I run an Alix 2D3 with Mikrotik's RouterOS x86 on at the moment, I do also have an RB751 but I found it lacked the CPU horsepower to manage everything i wanted it to do.
RouterOS can be buggy at times and has a very steep learning curve, but It offers a feature set I've not been able to find in anything that's available in a similar price range.
