Exclamation Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

Was not 100% sure which section this belonged to, moving on..

I've been searching the net for about 5 months now trying to resolve this problem. And only answer I get is "Use Sky Routers only, no others.."

      Problem:

I would just like to start off by saying i've been with different ISP's over the years, and none of them have ever had this issue..

I know how to port forward correctly on the Sky F@ST2304..

I enjoy hosting a server for which me, family and frinds can log into my server and play the game with me.
This, in turn requires that certain ports HAVE to be forwarded in order for the public to access the server.

I've found that these ports, no matter what I do are always blocked "3306/3443".

And I know i've forwarded them correctly, because the other 3 ports required are now open.

I know for 100% fact that it's the router, as I hosted my server at a friends house, and indeed these 2 ports are unblocked once port forwarding has been completed.

But with SKY isp/router, it's blocked no matter what I do..

This is very important to me that im able to host this server, and because of other threads saying that I can't use another router with sky. Im at a loss.

If there is a way that these ports can be unblocked, please let me know. If not, im afraid i'll have to go with another provider.

My router: Sagemcom F@ST2304 Firmware: 5.14.6.1a4N
Issue: Ports 3306/3443 blocked even after forwarding them.

I am very happy with sky, my BB is fast enough for me, and no problems at all, other than this.
But since this is so important to me, I need this resolved, one way or another.

If you happen to have another router available, there are instructions on this forum to enable you to see if this will work with your own router. Have tried doing this?

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps (in inital connection time)

      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Sky's T & Cs prohibit running a web server so I am wondering if they have blocked the necessary ports. I would be surprised if this is the case as several here run games servers.

You have checked that you software firewall is configured to allow the ports?

Re: Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

      Not software issue.
Also, tried these ports at both friends houses that own sky routers.. None of them can open these ports.

Im starting to think that this router is 100% crap. Or sky is blocking it

Scubbie: I could easily find a way to use a different router using the tools/guides on this forum.
But I wanted to see if there was any reason why this is happening, or if sky was doing this.

Other than this issue, I quite like the router.
And to all the people asking me if im behind a 3rd party firewall, the answer is no..
No 3rd party software, totaly disabled windows firewall. And the fact that 2 other people with exact same router has this issue.. Means it's either this router or Sky is not allowing these ports to be open.

Re: Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

What I was thinking was to extract the log in details from your sky router, set up another router with the details (doesn't matter about the specs) and to see if you can:
      • get it to connect to Sky's servers (a few have reported problems recently)
      • see if the server can be accessed

This would prove whether it is the Sky router's locked down firmware or whether it is blocked at their servers.

Some members have set up small servers in the past and have managed to get them to work. It may simply be that they weren't using the same ports or had a non-sky router.

Re: Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

Thank you for you're quick replies. But as we both know, it's not right at all. It might just be this router, and im going to try out a friends router which is a newer model. The port thats being blocked is also for "Remote Assistance" You know where im going with this...

Anyway, no other isp's do this. I hope that Sky will change thier minds to unblock these ports. But if it is indeed the fact that this router is as useful as an ashtray on a bike, i'll have to look into getting an upgrade.

What would be the issues of getting a newer router from sky? Pay money or simple replacment?

Re: Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

Knowing Sky, I would imagine that the same ports would be blocked if it is a router issue.

If you happen to have an old ADSL2+ router lying around, see if you can configure it work on your connection. You would then be in a better position to judge what is going on.

Sky are not going to cut you off just for using your own router for a few hours. Many members, including myself, are open about using their own routers on Sky's broadband services.

I'm afraid I don't, ports 3389, 2869 and 1900 are used for this and I doubt very much that they are blocked. What would be the point?

Re: Sky Router: Port Forwarding issues.

I have port forwarding problems with my Sagem 2504n router as described here
Sadly my connection is MER encapsulated so I cannot try my old DG834 router which worked flawlessly on 2 previous ISP's
