But the 'nerds' preffered ISP was UKOnline and Sky went and closed that down.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Help! Slower speeds on LLU than BT ADSL Max
I'm not surprised. having a look at some of the threads on Think Broadband, many people were on the phone to tech support at UKOnline more or less permanently wanting their noise margin decreased or increased, wondering why they had lost a few mbts of speed and wanting Seamless Rate Adaptation. This must have cost UKOline a fortune.

Re: Help! Slower speeds on LLU than BT ADSL Max
My brother-in-law is an executive in sky and he assures me that nobody will be cut-off for using their own router. Apparently they have it for a combination of the reasons I gave and the reasons you gave. And as for this first line stuff - the public can;t get to talk with anyone other than 1st line. Even when it is escalated internally it comes back to first line to talk to the customer. 2nd line is tiny and HATE stuff coming through to them. The Sky router as is cannot do the majority of things I have mentioned, and if you want to see the fatual results for how much throughput/RAM etc it has then go take a look at smallnetbuilder.
Anyway, it shouldn't put your (nottheenemy) nose out of joint that I prefer to use my own router, and Sky will absolutely NOT do anything about it either.
I am very happy with the connection I have now as a result of the additions I have made, with the help of this forum. So once again, thanks for that

Re: Help! Slower speeds on LLU than BT ADSL Max
Is he an executive in Sky Broadband, if so, next time you speak to him ask if he has heard of the Customer Solutions Team, who are certainly not Tier 1 and often speak to users?

I doubt if he would come on this forum officially and repeat what he has told you.
Users have been using their own routers almost since SkYBB was started, in fact as soon as the first router was hacked members here were using their own. No one has been disconnected for doing so, but that does not remove the requirement in the T & Cs to use the supplied router.

Re: Help! Slower speeds on LLU than BT ADSL Max
Not correct.
'First line' (Tier 1) handle the call in the first instance. If the issue cannot be resolved, then a HD2 ticket or TTM/SPM case is raised to 'second line' (Customer Solutions Team) and the call is warm transferred through. DPA is confirmed and then the customer can talk to someone in CST. Fault Management and the NOC are not customer facing, and CST relay their information to the customer if need be.

Re: Help! Slower speeds on LLU than BT ADSL Max
Well the bottom line is it all works and I am getting far faster speeds than with BT, my VOIP works better and I'm pretty happy. Thanks again for the help gained on the forum and apologies to anyone I might have rubbed up the wrong way
