      Router Crashes

Over the last day or so my Sky Router has been crashing pretty regularly.

Yesterday afternoon, it would stay up for an hour or so.

Last night I increased the SNR target to 125% putting my down SNR from 7dB to around 9dB. I hoped that would be the solution, and thought it was but unfortunately it has just crashed again.

When my router crashes, all lights appear normally so it appears to be working but cannot connect to the internet nor to the web server (192.168.0.1).

Wondering whether it is line dropping that is causing this or if it is actually a failing router.

Perhaps the line is working fine and it is the switch part that has failed for example.

Typically, when the line is dropped does it crash the router?

Router is the original Netgear DG834GT.

      Any thoughts?

      Cheers,

      Nigel

      Come on, someone must know.

When the line drops does it crash the router or does it just cause the router to re-negotiate?

      Cheers,

      Nigel

      Re: Router Crashes

When the line drops, it shouldn't crash the router, it should just try to re-negotiate with the exchange.

If the light isn't flashing then it hasn't dropped, what does it say in the logs?

It may be worth putting back the original firmware if you have changed it to see if this has any effect.

Nothing to speak off in my logs - just this

      Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:51 - Initialize LCP.
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:51 - LCP is allowed to come up.
      Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:51 - CHAP authentication success
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:54 - Send out NTP request to ntp1.isp.sky.com
      Mon, 2010-01-04 16:53:44 - Receive NTP Reply from ntp1.isp.sky.com
      Mon, 2010-01-04 16:53:44 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.10
      Mon, 2010-01-04 16:52:48 - Router start up
      Mon, 2010-01-04 18:51:25 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.10
almost like the log is getting cleared when it crashes.

I assume the date\time in the first messages are default and then it syncs with some time server.

I have all logging events enabled.

      Cheers,

      Nigel
