Username/Password Request during internet use

We have been with Sky broadband for a good while now and every now and then, whilst browsing the internet, a box will appear (it happened to me just a few minutes ago) saying:

A Username and Password are being requested by Google. The site says "DSL Router".

The router we have is the one provided by Sky - Sagem.

Why does this happen?

I apologiise if this has already been answered in a previous thread.

Re: Username/Password Request during internet use

I seem to recall that there was a similar problem specific to the Sagem and triggered by the connection dropping. May be misremembering though and I think it would be the router request box popping up, not what you describe

Sorry to be vague. Hopefully someone else will be able to help more.

Re: Username/Password Request during internet use

That's a new one on me - haven't heard of that.

However, on checking, the router authentication popup carries the text listed above, so I think it could well be the Sagem/connection drop problem.

@KazandSte

If you click 192.168.0.1 is that the box you're referring to?

That may well be the case for some but I was unable to view anything on the internet at all, not just Google.

So is there a thread somewhere to give me some help about it. I have no technical knowlege whatsoever when it comes to routers.

Re: Username/Password Request during internet use

Sorry - technical help on what?

Please click the link I provided and tell us whether the box you see is the one you originally referred to. If it is then you're probably suffering from disconnections and we can take it from there.
