Other Wireless Routers Compatible With Sky...
Hi currently i am using the supplied router DG834GT or something like that? i was told by the technician that this was the only compatible router i have been a sky max customer for over a year i have had no end of problems with this router not been able to get a wireless connection i tried everything zero config re-installing all software u name it i did it there is no problem with interference and in the end i just gave it up and run it on an unsightly wire running across my room (very inconvenient) without problem but i have now been out and purchased a new all singing all dancing hp m9365 desktop with wifi and just wondered if i could use a different netgear router? is it possible to use different router models for sky? if so which models are compatible?
if anybody has any idea please let me know
thanks

Re: Other Wireless Routers Compatible With Sky...
All wireless ADSL routers are compatible with Sky. You will have to extract your username and password from your Sky router (instructions on this forum) and enter them in your new router.
In theory Sky could ban you for not using their router but it hasn't happened yet.
Note that you will get no support from Sky unless you use their router.

Re: Other Wireless Routers Compatible With Sky...
You may have an all singing and dancing PC but wireless is a poor way to connect anything, nevermind something that might want a bit of bandwidth.
Get a couple of homeplugs and turn off the wireless, that will do away with any wires across your room.

I think PC world is the last place I would buy anything from. They are overpriced and give poor advice.

Have a read of this thread which deals with non-Sky routers-

Re: Other Wireless Routers Compatible With Sky...
Hi, I just switched from the Sky router to one of my own following the instructions on this forum as my wireless signal was too weak from the Sky box..
Almost however, my speed has dropped dramatically to less than 1MB down and 0.07 up: http://www.speedtest.net/result/844806391.png
Is it possible that Sky have already detected that I am not using their router and have throttled my connection??
