Original FW

I have an official Netgear DG834GT supplied by Sky and I would like to flash it back to the FW Version V1.00 which it had when it was new.

Reason: When the signal drops, as it still does, it was a lot easier to tune up the target noise margin to get a faster speed and re-boot the router via software (Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4) rather than pulling out the power plug or resetting via 192.168.0.1 .

So does anyone have a copy of the original [netgear.cfg] please?

Please, don't tell me to check my internal wiring, I've done all that, and used the master socket. I then had to get BT in to sort out a mistake I'd made which they charged me £900 for!

Sky's OK except when the signal drops out!

Thanks.

Re: Original FW

Have you got the original CD? Its on there.

I think also it is on the Netgear website.

Re: Original FW

No, it's not on the CD, that only contains the 'free' copy of that stupid AV program and a load of useless Sky 'junk'. Nothing about the router on the CD. I need the original FV issued by Sky.

Re: Original FW

The FW for each router should be on the CD (for the relevant CD that comes with it) have a look in one of the folders.

Re: Original FW

You can find the official firmware for the router by downloading the Netgear software kit for the Sky DG834GT router. It's in "bzipped tar" format, so you might have some difficulty extracting the contents. The file you need is called DG834GT-1SKUKS_V1.02.28.img. Note that that bzipped tar file contains a complete source code kit for the router, so it's more than ten times bigger than the image file, which is the only file you actually need from it.

Good grief - what did you do to your wiring

I don't think reverting firmware will help you as I suspect the router will just upgrade itself again.

I put one wire in the wrong slot but as I was at work when the engineer called he spent two hours faffing about trying to find the master socket, which was in the loft.

I don't care how many times it updates itself, if I have the original and mark it "read only" we'll see what happens.

I can handle .tar files as I also use Linux.

Re: Original FW

Why not use James' CU FW which allows you to set the noise margin, among other things
