Trying to unbrick a Netgear DG834 Router

First of all apologise if this has been covered. I have searched and found some ideas but none that have worked for me.

Ive got a DG834 router which when you power it on the power light comes on and the wired connection then it goes into Recovery Mode - flashing power and tick light.

Ive tried running the Recovery Utility on a Windows XP machine, but when I go through it the graphics mucks up and I can't see if its found the router or not...

I then tried it on my Vista laptop which does not detect the router after I select the ethernet port.

Ive tried installing WinPcap and changed the compatability mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2 but still can't get it to find the router.

Any ideas of how to get this little beast up and running again?

I would really appreciate any help!

Many thanks!!!

Re: Trying to unbrick a Netgear DG834 Router

Hi, ive read that thread which has explained a few things. But what about my laptop not picking up the router in the device list? Or is that still to do with the network chipset?

I have flashed a router on a machine at my girlfriends. I'll try their computer and see how it goes.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!

Regarding your laptop, was you trying to find the router via wifi?

Re: Trying to unbrick a Netgear DG834 Router

No, was connected via ethernet and I have a reltek chipset. After I select the network port the Recovery program thinks about it for a little while then in the device list its blank...

Re: Trying to unbrick a Netgear DG834 Router

It is not 'bricked', it is in flashing mode ready to receive the firmware.
Have a look at this post, it is how I got out of a similar situation.
Help needed to sort out dg834gt

You do need an OS and network card that will work with it. If you use Vista be sure to right click each of the .exe and select and Run as Administrator or you will crash.

Isitme I do actually LOVE YOU!!! LOL!!!

WOO!!! Got it working now thanks to your link about tricking the router with the DG834PN firmware!

I managed to flash the router on my laptop which is running Vista which did not blue screen at any point!

Many thanks for helping me out! Much appreciated!!!
