router question

Hi guys and gals, im in the process of switching over to sky LLU (been with Entanet ADSLMax for years so hope im not dissapointed) and ive got my username and router, a Netgear DG934G-1SKUKS (which looks uncannily like the sagem my father has??) and the question i have is - is there any point trying to get my old router to work or is this a good piece of kit?

Reason i ask is that i have a Netgear DG834PN which i never liked, lost sync more times than i care to remember and so i parked that and bought a Billion BiPAC 7300GA which has been faultless, syncs much faster and never drops and i mean never!!!
I understand that getting other routers to work has its problems but it isnt impossible so can anyone shed any light on my new netgear router and if its worth using??

cheers and hopefully i wont have tooooooooooooo many questions once i get up and running

oh and before anyones says this, yes i will use the sky one to get it all setup and working before i look at any changes, i just like to ask questions well in advance so i feel im in a better positiion come the time to change

Re: router question

To be honest, the DG834PN is superior to the DG934g, if it was not performing well I would suspect that it is faulty. Your Billion router is really a budget offering and I doubt it will perform any better than the one you received from Sky. The best thing to do is to try it and see. You should be aware that Sky's LLU requires the line to be in good condition to perform at it's best. Most find that they get a better speed than ADSLMax, but many have to 'tweak' there internal set up to achieve it.

There are plenty of guides on the forum concerning using your own router. Almost all can be configured to work with Sky. Using a non-Sky router is of course, against the T&Cs.

Re: router question

Thanks for the reply, i went through all the tech support with Netgear which didnt show any faults and i just suspect that, regardless of its price, the Billion is just better. i've done many tests with both and proof was always in the pudding, it just downloaded faster from newsgroups etc
i guess im fortunate enough to be able to try all 3 routers and see which comes out on top, wireless isnt important to me as i use powerline adaptors for the other pc's so we'll just have to wait and see what happens, got my letter today and have been told by the end of the day on the 12th it'll be changed over so fingers crossed it goes smoothly
