Router Help needed

I have stupidly moved from Sky to Supanet because it was cheaper. They only sent me a ADSL modem so I decided to use my Netgear wireless router from SKY. I understand that it needs to be flashed so that I can use it with Supanet but I am having problems doing it. Is that because I am accessing the internet with Supanet now?

I have tried following this Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password! . But can’t even find the netgear fw folder. Can anyone help. I can only access the internet on my stairs without wireless.

Re: Router Help needed

Sky would have sent you an ADSL wireless router/modem (either netgear or sagme) so why do you need to do anything with the netgear one you have?

Re: Router Help needed

^^^^^^^^^ I think you've misread the post. The OP says he's moved from Sky and wants to use the Sky router (which has wireless capabilities) with his new ISP.

Re: Router Help needed

Can you be a bit more specific about the problem you're having?

Also, are you Vista or XP (Vista can be a problem when trying to flash).

Re: Router Help needed

Using XP.

I am following the instructions. Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! Flashing your router firmware

But when I go and log onto 192.168.0.1 and put admin and password in, it doesn't recognise them. So I can't complete the instructions.

Re: Router Help needed

You don't have to log in and save the settings, if that is what you are trying to do. This only applies if you are using the router on Sky and want to back up the Sky settings. Have a look at this tutorial and see if it helps -
Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! Flashing your router firmware

The main problem experienced by most is that the router is not found in graphic 6 above, or the graphics are corrupted and do not display properly. If one of these is your problem, post back.

Nope, I'm still confused

Do you mean you're trying to log into an unflashed Sky router with admin/password? If so then that's going to get you nowhere - the default log in is admin/Sky. If you've changed it and forgotten what it is then reset the router by holding in the reset button for 15 seconds or so. That will put it back to the default.

Re: Router Help needed

Thank you both.

I have followed the instuctions and it said upgraded complete. Is there any other steps I need to complete so I can use the Netgear router with my Supanet broadband?

Re: Router Help needed

You will have to make sure the router is properly configured in the Basic Settings. Enter these by typing http://192.168.0.1 in the browser address bar, username admin,password password For Supanet I believe the configuration is
VPI = O
VCI = 38
Type: PPPOA VCMUX
You will also have to enter your ADSL username and password into the router. These will be the same as the ones used in your USB modem, probably not the same as your email.

It would probably be advisable to read the router user manual obtainable from http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/dg834gt_manual.pdf
