Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

Hi, I was with sky broadband but I just went with AOL, hope it's still alright to post here, im really stuck.

To cut a long story short, AOL have totally messed up with the change-over and they said I can't get my router till about 3 weeks, so I threatened to cancel my order, then they said If I go and buy a wireless router from the shop, they will refund me what I paid for the router.

So, I went out and got a Belkin N1 Wireless router, I was trying to set it up this morning but I think I need a modem to go with it too
There is no where to plug the phone wire in? Just the network cable.

This is the router:
Amazon.co.uk: Belkin Wireless Router N1: Electronics & Photo
This is the quick install guide:
http://belkin.httpsvc.vitalstreamcdn...8631-4_qig.pdf

Can someone please please help me with this?

Many thanks.

Re: Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

As you can see from the other products displayed on the page you provided a link to, the product you've bought is a simple wireless router.

One of the products listed below is a wireless router/modem -- I'd swap it for that one because adding a separate modem for ASDSL is unusual these days and will just add confusion

would seem you've bought the cable BB version as opposed to the adsl version...take it back and get the right one...

Re: Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

I am afraid you have bought the wrong piece of kit This is the problem with people refering to a Modem/Router simply as a Router. As you have discovered a Router reqires a modem to connect to the Internet. I think you have 3 options.

1, Return the router you have and buy one of these-Belkin Modem Router
2. Buy a single port modem to connect to the router you have.
3. Wait until AOL can supply you.
I think the first is the best option.

EDIT- Why don't you use your Sky netgear one?

Re: Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

Yes, you could use the Netgear as a modem. I have been told on this forum that it is possible to use WDS with the GT, I am waiting on a link to the firmware that enables this. Linking with an ethernet cable is quite easy if the wireless link does not work.

Re: Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

So I could plug the phone line into the sky router then have a network cable from the sky router into the Belkin N1 then a network cable from the Belkin to my PC..Hmmmmm.

Is there a special firmware I would need or could I just use Netgears latest firmware?

Re: Help with Belkin N1 Wireless router

Netgears latest should be OK. There is a bit more to it than just plugging the cables in, but you will get help with that if you need it.

If you are going to use the belkin wired and not wirelessly then there is really no point having it!
