Angry moved to sky from Bulldog

I have moved from bulldog which was totally unbundled. I have moved my phone line back to BT and have got Skymx bb.

My problen is that when I was with Bulldog I was getting a steady 15mb connection and now just under 10mb.

I have spoken to the sky CST and they are telling me my line will not handle anymore that this without errors and that I am 5.5km from the exchange, yet according to samknows I am only 217meters (as the crows fly).

It seems since returning to bt my line has been routed along a greater distance than it was before, so is there anyway I can get A shorted E-SIDE. so I can get a better connection.

also my line seems to have more noise on my line that before and BT are saying no fualt found and an engineer visit would be £160 + £99 per hour call out..

any ideas please

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

what are your line stats at present? how are you setup?

and you'll find it hard to get a shorter line...Sky can't do it, only BT, and bar moving closer to your exchange it's not going to happen...

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

my line stats are

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10554 kbps 671 kbps
Line Attenuation 17 db 4 db
Noise Margin 7 db 16 db

It this moment in time I have my router connected to the test socket no real difference from it being on the extention in the next room.

and i can see the exchange from my house cant really get much closer 217 meters in pretty close.

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

I think you may have been capped.

SkyUser - ADSL2 Line Speed Checker - upto 24mb

ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This is a rough guide only, and provides results of up to 24mb with the data made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Speed that you will receive on any ISP's product. Due to the fact that your Telephone Line does not run in a straight line from the Exchange, the Distance from Exchange figures, are interpreted as if your Telephone Line is that exact length. In reality, it is highly unlikely that this is the case.

imho You should get the full speed.

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

I did think that I have been capped, until I did a check using pipex ADSL2+ line check and it states the most i would get is 8mb.

Yet today when I phone sky and spoke to the CST the lady did a check and was told the most i would get is half meg, until she look at what speed was actually synced at.

I do think that with the intermittent noise and the distance that BT are report that I am from the exchange is all playing apart in this problem.

After sending a complaint to bt I have managed to get an engineer visit for tomorrow morning.

Will make him a nice cuppa and then ask a few questions.

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

no cap there, SNR is too low for that...although upstream IS capped...

unless the tie pairs are having issues or BT didn't jumper you right I don't see much room for improvement...

Re: moved to sky from Bulldog

With that attenuation you should be getting the full 16mbps however there obviously is a lot of noise on the line a tie pair shift may help.
