Flash not working at all

Okay, I have tried using the Netgear recovery tool to reflash the firmware. I have followed every step, the green and orange lights alternately flash on the router and I get up to the point on the recovery tool where it screws up.

I get to the part where I select the network card and click next and it shows the current version of the router firmware (but not the upgrade version) and the dialog box where I selected the network card from is in the background still.

Anyone know what I should do?

Re: Flash not working at all

before you started the flash recovery did you first click the RmDrv file (its in the flash recovery folder) to install the flash drivers....

Yes I did, this is the output of it:

Removing first Service Control Entries
Removing second Service Control Entries
program execute finish

EDIT: I also don't get a prompt to select a device.

I want to flash the router because I want access to the more advanced router config. I also want to add a third party firmware which has some cool features

But the main reason, is that with the current firmware, I am getting 230kbit/s but my line should be 10x that.

Re: Flash not working at all

doubt the router is at fault...perhaps posting up a thread in the main forum about setup/speeds etc will solve things...

bar gaining access to your username/password there's very little to be had using custom FW...better off buying a better router!!

Re: Flash not working at all

Very true. Still, I want to get this flashing problem fixed. Once I start on something, I won't give up until it's finished.

Anyone have any idea why it's not flashing?

Re: Flash not working at all

From my experience (and in the tutorials on this site on reflashing) there is an issue with certain Network Interface Cards.

I tried two different NICs -- the first (ironically a Netgear NIC) seemed to cause a corruption of the display and everything just stopped.

Using a different computer with another brand of NIC went smoothly.

That appears to be the case. I tried it on my laptop and it flashed with no problems whatsoever.
