hi all ....

Presumably it's in ZIP format -- have a look on the net for Winzip or similar free app.

Hi again have you tried to open in paint shop of any graphic software as paint shop pro has an img format in there

an img file is designed to be uploaded directy to the router thru the upgrade link in the admin pages.

Normal IMG files are also designed to be burnt to a disc using nero.

an app called ISOBuster can browse an img file if you want.

However, as you appear to have downloaded the img fw update, then you should be using my first point.

hi again ....i am trying to flash a sky router' with a netgear firmware have checked all the posts on here and followed the tutorial and other suggestions for getting the recover utility to " see"the firmware update including changing the name to match the sky update version
....it cant find it ...in one post i read and in the router upgrade page it states that the update needs to be unzipped before use ...out of all the people who say they have updated the firmware ,can anyone tell me ...does the update need to be unzipped !!

if the file is IMG, then nope, this is the file that you update with.

Now first things first:

- are you using the sky router and does it currently have the 'normal' sky FW on it, if so what is the version number and what make and colour is the router.

its the netgear dg843gt white , version 1 .02.28 (from the admin page router status)not currently in use ...but would like to use it for a different isp (talktalk)...Dave
