DG834GT Firmware Upgrade - Current V1.02.28

Hi there,

I have seen many discussions on the upgrading the firmware on the SKY DG834GT's.

As you can hopefully tell from the heading,I have a DG834GT with Firmware V1.02.28 and I am looking to gain access to all the normal features and options that this router should have, namely Basic Settings and ADSL Settings.

I have seen the CU Firmware's and tried one of them, but when trying toupgrade,it told me that it was the wrong firmware file.

Based on what I have just now, as there are too many threads on this forme to be able to read through, what do I have to do to get on a new, fully featured, firmware version.

Do I have to initially upgrade the router to SKY's latest firmware before the CU version will upload, or should the CU version work as my router currently is?

Also, rather than use a CU version,is there any way to get the normal Netgear Firmware onto this box?

IANTE, i just noticed the OP's profile which says they are not on sky, which would explain why he needs the netgear firmware

@fernsie - if you continue to look in the tech forum you will find what you need

and how many times do we know users don't fill their profiles in correctly

if they have moved, surely just buy a better router? i always do when i swap providers as new ones come out better than the one you've had...

Re: DG834GT Firmware Upgrade - Current V1.02.28

Hi,

My profile is correct, i'm not with SKY. I was givin this by a friend who has just moved from SKY to TalkTalk for some reason and they asked if I could set-up their new connection for them.

At which point I came across the fact that ... I couldn't!!

They only got a wired modem from TalkTalk and their home setup is wireless ... they assumed that they could just re-configure the SKY router, as I would have had they asked me.

Out of sheer annoyance, I just wanted to see if there was any way to make the damn thing work and ended up here :-)

Re: DG834GT Firmware Upgrade - Current V1.02.28

it can be done but there are issues regarding motherboard chipsets/NICs and it can't be done in Vista as this screws it up too!!

tbh, it's less hassle to get an unlocked generic router off eBay...

Re: DG834GT Firmware Upgrade - Current V1.02.28

I found this thread and the firmware file appears to have worked a treat.
- Will need to test it out later

Re: DG834GT Firmware Upgrade - Current V1.02.28

NOTE: I did try the Netgear Recovery Utility initially, but it wouldn't see the Router
- I read that it is a tool that is fussy as hell though, so I didn't spend the time playing around with that on different PC's
