4 pc's later still cant get flash utility prog to work

hi
ive tried 4 pcs now to get this sky router flashed to universal usage
all the pcs ive used are xp not vista an im following the tutorial to the letter
my 1st experiance was my own nvidia chipset main board the utillity simply dont detect LAN
tried on a celeron pc an altho it detected LAN an selected it went to press upgrade button an the prog just halts nothing happens even after 10 min wait
tried on my daughters laptop an exaclty same effect finds LAN hit the upgrade button an it halts, even after 10 min wait
Tried on my fathers pc an again hit upgrade button an it just simply halts, even after 10 min wait
take it i have a DG834GT v1 because its white not black .. an has dg834gt in router setup page it has sky sidd an key label on base any way telling for sure ?

the proceedure im following is

i get the force flash utility from link supplied on tutorial...
i get DG834GT Super Wireless ADSL Router Firmware Version 1_02_04.img from netgear site
i place it within same directory as the utility,,,
i power down router and pressin reset pin power up router keeping reset pin held in for 4to 5 seconds ,,till power an test light blink alternitively ....
At this point i get connectivity is slow or not connected warning yellow bubble message on desktop LAN icon .
i click on icon Rm .drv an a black command box pops up on desktop sayin "removing first service control entries ,removing second service control entries, programme execute finish, press any key to exit"

i click on upgrade utillity wizard.exe an a interface opens with next button....i click next
shows the network adapter on the pc an select it
i click next
i see in model area 834 written
in server its blank in area
an blank on version area
i see a back button an a upgrade button
i press upgrade an the thing hangs

tried now on 4 pcs 3 hangs 1 dont detect LAN
reading on whats been said its case of finding a pc that will actually progress an do the job ,or is i going wrong somewhere im running out of family an friends who have xp pc's :O(

i read that thread yesterday an saw that the user concerned was flashing from netgear firmware back to sky firmware. So unless its suggested that i start the utility with original sky firmware in folder but renamed firmware, then at stage mentioned drag netgears original firmware but renamed firmware an overwrite excisting file. I have not tried this yet as the task the thread was seeking advice on,was opposite to what im trying to achieve. As for taking of themes I run my xp in classic mode anyways. The advice to run programe in compatibility mode ,when i select that option i get drop down menu to windows 95 or win98/ME or windows nt service pack 5 or win2000
i remember tryin 1 option and got registry error when clickin the utility exe

i go on the theroy its worked for 1000's folks it will work for me ..just a case finding a pc that will do the job . im goin to my mates today an he has 2 towers an a laptop ..1 has to do the job i cant be that unlucky...!!

again, why not just buy one? they're not that expensive...

seeing as Sky is going to make it so you have to return faulty routers if getting one replaced/leave Sky, maybe it's not the best idea...

ok to em who say just buy 1 ive 3 reasons ,,1st scots blood fist as tight as a nannie goats knee cap ..2nd im not sky customere i want the dam router open to my tiscali account 3 ive got a daughter lives in next street an im classed as absent father still, so CSA take 1/3 of me wage...yeah id buy 1 but ive alittle more prioritys then that.

also im here to see if im doin sumthing wrong or anyone had any hint to possible get round to my problem, so please no more buy 1 please,

hell what kind forum is this u look for help an support an ur replys are buy new 1

ok yessssssssss lol got the uker flashed at last on my mates pc
tee hee,, when it started the erasing eprom an give that message i danced about his living room like a mad yeti..kids would been thinkin wtf,,,,

oh anyone who is following this thread as they suffering same problems as me ,,never give in to the BUY 1 chants lolol .. just make sure you have alot of pals with xp systems, as so many of the advice about this subject, try try try till u get the righy cobination of chipset LAN the utillity likes. As the thread subject denotes it work for me 5th pc time of asking :O)

Erm, a forum where people generally try to give helpful advice, but different people will sometimes have different ideas about how best to resolve a problem.

You did go to an awful lot of effort before finally finding a PC that let you reflash the Sky router - I don't think that it was an outrageous suggestion that you give up on the Sky router and just buy a Netgear branded router, even if it wasn't the answer you wanted.

wasnt that much trouble ..as i concluded it had worked for 1000's before it will with me ,was just case of findin a pc that would manage the job. i self derived at conclusion it was down to hardware an nothing i was doing wrong by reading posts before posting.
I know this by past forum experiance people get jumpy when you post without searching reading simular problems
So i feel while i an others too came to same concusion i was doing nothing wrong an was down to hardware issues replys like,, oh just buy a new 1,, isnt really solutions to the problem an id rather they have saved on the cyber ink

in short i dont think i went to alot trouble at all i tried my 2 pcs simple case of tower swappin, me daughter visits evey day so told her bring her laptop ...i visit me dads every day so simply put router in car an files on usb stick .. my mate lives 4 doors up from there an visit 2 times a week .
wasnt that much trouble at all i really wish i hadnt posted here now i came to my own conclusion by reading an hindsight tells my my conclusion was spot on ..lesson learned i suppose
