I'm trying to find the official firmware that was shipped with the sky router [DG834GT], I have done a search but not had any luck.

If you mean the `Sky` firm ware I do believe that it is on the installation disc that came wit the router.

Aye, but I don't have the sky disk that came with the router, it's been sitting in the attic for the last year :/

You can find the official firmware for the router by downloading the Netgear software kit for the Sky DG834GT router. It's in "bzipped tar" format, so you might have some difficulty extracting the contents. The file you need is called DG834GT-1SKUKS_V1.02.28.img. Note that that bzipped tar file contains a complete source code kit for the router, so it's more than ten times bigger than the image file, which is the only file you actually need from it.

Alternatively, you can download just the firmware image from here, but that link is unofficial.

I tried using the DG834GT-1SKUKS_V1.02.28.img and it gives me a error for its version

Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device.

Upgrade failed.

Please obtain the correct file and try again.

Checked the current router verion and it's V1.02.04

Edit: When I try using the DG834 Recovery Utility it give me a popup 'open registery fail'

If you have this version you should be able to use the Router Upgrade in the router set up, which is blocked in the Sky version. You should not have to use the Recovery Utility. Just open the Router set up, go to the Router Upgrade page and point it to where you have stored the image file. It might work. Why do you want to put Sky firmware back on it?

If the standard Netgear firmware has been put onto the router, then you have to use the Netgear Recovery Utility to put the Sky firmware back on it, in exactly the same way that the Netgear Recovery Utility had to be used to get the standard Netgear firmware onto the Sky router.

I am assuming, of course, that the router in question is a Sky router. There would be no point in putting the Sky firmware onto an off-the-shelf DB834GT .

Are you using Vista?

And did you remember to double click on the RmDrv icon before using the UpgradeWizard program?

Using XP, I have finaly manged to get the DG834 Recovery Utility started by putting a old netgear NIC in, but I get this when I try and do it



I have tried downloading the Recovery Utility again but it's just the same
