Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
There's always a few V2 Sky routers available on eBay. With so many people getting more than one router (I was sent 3), I guess a lot of these are spares that otherwise would have been sitting in a cupboard or stashed away in the loft.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if people are getting their ADSL username and password, using their own router and selling off the unwanted Sky router. I consider that a very foolish thing to do.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
Just done it, better connection than with the sky firmware! was connecting at a line speed of around 14-15000 kbps, but on speedtest.net only coming down at 512. Upgraded the firmware and now seeing speeds of 13800 kbps.
SPOT ON!
Cheers for this, works a charm.
One thing to note tho is the connection light on the front remains amber, and flashes green when transfering data.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
Hi
I flashed my DG934 to latest DG834Gv3 firmware. All goes well except that if I reboot the router it knocks the adsl signal off my line.
I'm with TalkTalk and everything works until I reboot and then no signal at all. Phoned TalkTalk second line support and they had to 'reload the profile onto my line' - as soon as that was done got the signal back. Happened again last weekend following a reboot.
Had a power cut yesterday and therefore reboot occurred and lost adsl signal again.
Could I have some sky code still running on this router that does this or could it be a faulty router?
Any advice appreciated

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that if you reboot the router, it fails to reconnect, and stays like that until you phone TalkTalk up and ask them to fix it for you?
I can't imagine what could be doing that, but it seems more likely to be a problem at the exchange end rather than at your end. It's not possible for the router to be still running bits of Sky firmware. Reflashing a router replaces (pretty much) everything that was there before - it's not like installing a program onto your PC.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
I have had a similar problem on TalkTalk with a DG934 flashed with DG834G firmware version 4.01.30. I could not get it to connect for very long before my ADSL signal disappeared. It came back overnight once of it's own accoord but twice I had to get level 2 support to reload the line profile. I haven't dared try it again but note the following firmware from Netgear support site.
Firmware
• Version 4.01.37 (for outside NA)
Mar 24, 2008
• Version 4.01.30 (for outside NA)
Sep 5, 2007
• Version 4.01.28 (for UK)
Version 4.01.27 (for outside NA & UK)
May 31, 2007
• Version 4.03.04 (for North America)
Version 4.01.06 (for UK)
Version 4.01.04 (for outside NA & UK)
July 18, 2006
• Initial Release May 12, 2006
One thing I did notice when I checked my router stats was that the SNR was negative. Maybe it's a firmware issue.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
I have yet to work out the mysteries of the TalkTalk Broadband service. A neighbour of mine signed up for this, and it's just really odd. The rather weird little ADSL modem they sent seems to freeze periodically, but when I tried a reflash Sky Sagem router, it seemed to connect find, but speeds were appalling. The weird Chinese modem had a MTU setting of 1300 (iirc), so I tried that in the Sagem router and things improved, but it still seemed pretty sluggish compared to the actual sync speed.
There must be something very stange about TalkTalk's ADSL implementation, that's all I could think of.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware
Not sure how relevant this is, but set up a colleague's TalkTalk system as follows:
Replaced the supplied modem with a Belkin wireles router (ex Ebay) & used the following info gleaned from a forum:
VPI: 0 VCI: 38 MTU: 1432
DNS settings: Leave these blank or 0.0.0.0 so the settings are provided automatically from the network
Authentication: CHAP Encapsulation: PPP over ATM (PPPoA). VC-MUX
(You will also need your TalkTalk Broadband username and password. You'll find these in the welcome letter we sent. If you cannot find your welcome letter and cannot remember your broadband username and password, you can call free of charge from a TalkTalk landline on 0870 0875 562 to retrieve them)
On an up to 8 Mb/s service he is getting just under 7 Mb/s both wired & wireless.
As he is not a Sky subscriber & with limited funds, the TalkTalk service seemed the most cost effective. (£16/month which includes line rental & some phone calls)
Regards,
Max.

I have switched back to my old belkin router until I can resolve this problem as I cannot keep ringing support every time the router reboots!
My problem is similar to above only mine seems to be triggered by rebooting the router.
When Talktalk fixed the problem last week the router ran perfectly with good speed. The only reason it failed again was we had a power cut and the router rebooted loosing the signal again. Level 2 support had to be called to reload the profile.
I was using Netgear firmware 4.01.37 if that makes any difference.
My stats off the Belkin router are:
Data rate 2454/443
Noise margin 5.2/8.4
Output power 0/12.9
Attenuation 64/36.8
Any suggestions appreciated as the Netgear seemed the better router except for this problem.
