Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

James,

Thank you very much, I tried this again and made sure the correct firmware file was present, and i sucessfully reflashed the router. I now have it running the DG834 firmware, and so it appears completely unlocked from sky!! :-)

I have been doing all this at work, so can't wait to get it home and test it on my adsl line to be sure it works. Maybe i will post 2moro with an update on how it goes.

Thanks again for your help, for a while there i thought i'd got a paperweight.

Thanks also to Digitaldazz for discovering this upgrade solution.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

Glad you got it sorted. There's usually a way of fixing Netgear routers when they get stuck in their recovery mode with the alternating lights. It's when a flash upgrade fails and the router doesn't have the flashing lights that it all gets a bit tricky…

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

I had a V1 router given me a couple of weeks ago that had been subject to a Vista blue screen during upgrade and stuck in flash mode. I had spent several hours trying to get the flash utility to detect the router to no avail. After reading what James mentioned above I decided to download as many 834 firmwares I could find today and after much trial and error found it discovered the router when trying to apply a DG834PN firmware. So using the rename file procedure mentioned the router is up and working again much to a friends relief!

I can only presume he tried using the wrong firmware.

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

Hi wonder if someone can help got a sky netgear dg934 router I did try to follow the instructions to remove sky firmware from the router but update utility does not see the router although I can enter routers setup any help would be wellcome. Firmware version on the router is 2.xxx any idea how to locate router with the update utility? Or can someone provide img file which can be uploaded using a web interface? Thanks in advance. Router is V3 version at least the sky box states v3 may be a sky cd version 3 not sure

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

Hi,

try putting the router into flash recovery mode by switching off the router, press and hold the small inverted reset switch with a pen ( this is the small hole by the on/off switch ). Whilst holding the reset switch, turn the router on and you should see the 2 bottom lights flash alternativlely.

now run the recovery utility.

Hi James,
I have a Sky V1(DG834GT) router which is stuck at the recover mode (power and tick LED flashing alternately), and netgear recovery utility fail to detect the router. What is 'a way of fixing the netgear routers' you mentioned above? Can you please provide a guide to revive the routers with alternating flashing lights?

Thanks.

I am not an expert but from what I have understood from this page you have tu run recovery utility with a correct img file in the same directory since it only looks for the same router on the network. You have to use Sky V1 img if that is the firmware version you have had on the router before or different one if you did reflash it to unlock it from sky (ie take a couple sky firmwares and a couple of DG834GT once and see one may work)

Re: DG934 - Hacked - running official netgear firmware

Excellent hack and worked faultlessly! Now have the sky v2 router running 834v3 firmware connected to non-sky ISP. Brilliant!
