Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience of using Dual WAN router, that utilises two ADSL lines? Would SKY support this on the standard subscription? I do not mind paying an additional 10 pounds subscription, if it meant faster speeds

The reason for my question is I am currently connecting at 3mb and would like to increase this to approx 6mb using two ADSL lines. Netgear sell a router that supports this ( Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | NETGEAR FVS124G ProSafe Dual WAN Gigabit Firewall Router )

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Doug

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

If you are on base (as suggested on your profile), which is 2meg max could you not move to the mid package which is 8meg ?

Edit: scrap all above, i have just read your other posts an you seem to be on max, i take it there was no joy with BT and your phone line ?

I do not know about the twin ADSL (but would have thought not)

Hopefully someone will be on a little later to give you some advice

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

My mistake, I am on the MAX (16mb) package, unfortunately, I have not updated my profile to reflect that. The quality of my line has restricted me to 3->3.5mb connection speed, subject to the reason why I was thinking about a Dual WAN router.

Cheers,
Doug

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

you can only have one active service with Sky at any one time so the answer is no, you cant do it

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

…and whilst there's loads of other providers who will happily provide two ADSL connections, there's not many providing bonded ADSL which is what you need. Unless things are setup specifically at the ISP end to bond the ADSL connections, you won't double the speed to 6 - 7 Mbit/sec, you'll just be able to have two downloads running simultaneously at 3 - 3.5 Mbit/sec.

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

Thanks guys for your quick replies! I guess that's scuppered my plans for fast internet.

Any ideas which ISPs offer this service of 'bonded' ADSL? If so, what would be the associated cost?

Many thanks!
Doug

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

If you're still considering a dual ADSL router for this then you could consider the Cisco 1841 with dual ADSL WIC cards, or the Virtual Access GW7000

Cheers

Re: Dual WAN using two ADSL lines

It would be nice if Sky did provide a bonded service, I sync at 15Mb most days, with an occasional flutter up to 16Mb so having two lines providing those speeds, I'd be a very happy chappy .

Be* are currently trialling it.

Is there nothing that can be done to improve your connection? Have you got a filtered faceplate/removed the ring wire, and all that jazz?
