Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
The only thing I am looking for in an update is that when my noise ratio drops below 7db the router will automatically drop the speed to bring it back on track.
That's the only improvement I really need atm.

Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
I cannot even use the recovery wizard
the whole program is distorted and does not even work
I'm using Vista if that makes any difference

Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow, or it can crash! Be water, my friend. (Bruce Lee)

Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
I think you have to use an XP pc to update the firmware.

Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
the recovery program needs to use Windows XP, this will not work on any version of Vista - Due to registry keys within XP that are not in Vista

Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
Rather than answer that one here and now, do a search - you'll see that it has been asked many times before. In a nutshell, the pervaling view is that it is the thing to do if you're going to hand out a million of these things free of charge to people that are not IT literate and then support it.
Indeed. The ADSL2+ protocol supports this. However, to have it work, the ADSL chipset, firmware and DSLAMs also all have to support it and at present, I'm not aware of anywhere on the planet (except research labs) that have sucessfully got that part of the protocol working in a production environment.
Well, more due to the new IP stack written into Vista.
There are lots of ideas kicking around about how to force rourter flashing to work. I can say with confidence that if you were to do a fresh install of XP, installed no software, disabled the local firewall and flashed it, it would work (assuming the router itself works).

Re: Netgear Release New Firmware...
Im just about to do a fresh install of windows xp on my spare drive
and try it again because i had an hunch that it might be something like a driver problem or similar thing.
I'll let you know how i get on later on
