Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

Please note that it is no longer necessary to go through the process of flashing the DG834GT to obtain the connection username and password.

If you have one of the new Netgear V2 DG934G or Sagem F@ST 2504 Routers or the old Netgear DG834GT routers, try this thread:

Getting your V1 and V2 router passwords - the safe way

GUIDE TO FLASH NETGEAR DG834GT FROM SKY TO NETGEAR FIRMWARE

Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! Flashing your router firmware

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG, DONT BLAME ME IF YOUR ROUTER DOESNT WORK. ITS STILL A RISKY METHOD

Firstly your going to need the flash files.Download from link below.
    Netgear

Once you have the files, you will need to unrar it using a program such as WinRar.
Extract the files to somewhere like your desktop for easy access.

    1. Take the power cable out of the router. For the flashing process only the power cable and the network cable is needed.
You cant flash over a wireless connection

    2. Use a pen or similar item and press the button on the rear of the router, where the ports are, at the same time insert the power cable
then let go of the reset button, the two lights on the front of the router should be flashing in an alternate pattern,
if it isnt, try doing it again, dont hold on to the reset button for too long.

    3. Once you have it into the correct state, open the "netgear fw" folder and run RmDrv.exe.

    4. In the same folder run UpgradeWizard.exe.

    5. The program will open, click on next.

    6. Select the correct network adapter from the list given and click on next.

    7. The device list will show up, it should show the routers mac address. Click next.

    8. Verify the details and click next.

    9. This is the upgrade screen. click upgrade to start the process.

    10. It will now be upgrading. let it continue.

    11. Success! Close the program now.

    12. At this point you may not be able to access the router straight away. you can try going to http://192.168.0.1/ (admin/sky) if it doesnt work, just press the reset button quickly or power

    cycle the router.

    13. The end result.

    14. Now its a good idea to goto backup settings and
Save a Copy of Current Settings , click backup and save the file in a safe place.

you can now open this file with a program like wordpad and scroll to the password part. keep that bit safe.

SKYUSER.CO.UK DISCLAIMER - Although this is great news, we would like to make it crystal clear, we do not recommend that you do this. If you do and damage your router, we cannot accept any responsibility. The information in this post is for information / research only - NewsreadeR

    Bingo!

Well done - everyone else should be able to use their non-sky router now!

Great piece of detective work. I may have to flash mine back to the Netgear firmware so I can use the SRA functionality and tweak my SNR.

    more info,

    telnet works!!! no user/pass needed

after flashing the router kept all of the information, the login password for the router still stayed as admin/sky

im trying to figure out if the password is available anywhere else or if this is the only way to get it, now that i know what it is.

I've had my setup for about 2 weeks now- all working ok. At first I was keen to use my original equipment but after setting up the SKY one, i dont really see any real need to go back to original setup.

Previous router was a Netgear DG814, so settings weren't too hard to transfer over.

I may just try this for the sake of doing it!

I want to keep my router as is but would like acces to the low level tweaks

if telnet was available, i dont think any of this would be necessary,

hopefully someone can still "hack" the telnet part so that people dont have to do this method to get the user/pass.
