Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

Hi All,

Now I'm not a big fan of flashing - especially in the park on a dark winter's night!

So for those not wanting to flash their router to get the hidden username & password I found the following while scouring the web...

Enter the following url into your browser..

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=pi...ww/netgear.cfg

Once you have done that enter in http://192.168.0.1/netgear.cfg and save the file to your PC. Open the file with a text editor such as Wordpad and you will see your Sky Username and Password listed.

With this you will be able to use a different router other than the Sky provided Netgear one.

If you want to use your Sky router on another providers broadband then you would have to flash the software as mentioned earlier to get access to the Username and password fields you would need to enter your existing details in.

I've looked through this thread, but haven't seen this mentioned previously. If I missed it and it's already known about, then apologies.

One question though - suppose my router does pack in after warranty and I buy a new Belkin or whatever to use with Sky, how do I go about entering this username and password. Would I need to flash it then?

Anyway, hope this is of some use. I've tried it and it works.

Best Regards

Dumfy

Shame you didn't "scour" Skyuser first.

It was a Skyuser member that came up with that method many months ago. It has subsequently been built into a tool (Mognuts) with additional features. I should imagine there are several hundred posts on the forum discussing this.

Thanks anyway for trying to help people

Note: this method is only applicable to the Sky DG834GT (V1) router with the original Sky firmware. A different method is available for the newer Netgear router (details again on the forum) but, at the time of posting, no method exists for the new Sagem router.

In response to your other question, again, on the forum, you'll find instructions on how to use the connection details in an alternative router. See here.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

I have the same problem as stewiegriffin when trying to flash the firmware. However, the firmware i have now is the 1.02.28. I have had multiple problems with connection drops etc over the past months, until I found mognuts utility last week and set my target noise margin to 10. The service has been exceptional since then. No drops, smooth speeds. I'd try that first if the reason you want to flash the firmware is to fix a dodgy connection. If not, well, just ignore me, what the hell do i know after all!!

OK, Ive read through a fair bit of this thread and thought I'd give this a try..
You will find several references to this throughout the forum and in THIS thread It means that your PC/OS/Network card/Individual router or something else is incompatible with the procedure. I personally have tried it on about 14 PCs with different OSs and cards with no success. Fortunately, it is not my main router, but one I bought very cheaply. It seems there is an element of luck in getting it to work.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

I'd just like to share my joy and admit to a bit of muppetry (just in case someone else out there makes the same mistake).

I have a Netgear 9xxx router, and it's a PoS as far as wireless is concerned (when there are 3 of us sitting round one table as it's the only place we can get a signal, something's amiss).

Anyway, I have a Belkin from pre-Sky days and wanted to switch, so I was delighted the 9xxx was cracked at last. Flashing was a dream (used a cable for safety) and getting the password out worked exactly as described. I wrote it down as carefully as possible, checked at least 3 times and pressed on.

Belkin set-up easily, even synch'd to the ADSL, but would not connect to the internet. I spent about 6 hours today changing everything from DNS to the firmware, not to mention searching all over the place for clues until I came across someone who had actually written out the format of the U/Name and P/word. The U/Name is something like xxxxxxxxxxxxxx@skydsl, but I had written it as xxxxxxxxxxxxxx@skyds1

Changed the 1 to an l and BINGO!

I am a muppet of the first order, please feel free to take the p1ss!

Oh and don't make the same error I did!

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

Hi

I would just like to thank the OP for this guide. I aquired a spare sky Netgear V1 router today, and successfully flashed it for my own use.

thanks
joe
