New Sagem Router
I GIVE UP!!!!
I've been trying in vain for months now to get my DG834GT to maintain a stable connection. I've flashed the firmware, fiddled with the noise margin, and finally got sky to send out a replacement router to replace my 'broken' equipment. I've actually had it replaced twice. Both times Sky promised to send the new black router but, lo and behold, both times they sent a white one. So, now I have 3!!
So I finally bit the bullet and ordered a black Sky Sagem off Ebay today. Its new and unopened. Problem is, I assume the username/password in the sagem isnt going to work from my line. I already have the username/password from my white router, so how do I put it onto the sagem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
By the way, I have extracted the username/passwords out of all the white routers and they are all different, but interestingly, I can still connect with all 3. I would have thought only one would work?

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
The sagem will work just fine as long as SKY haven't disabled its username/password. Its surprising that with all your problems you haven't posted on here and asked for help as most stability problems are caused by things you could probably fix at your end.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
I don't think anyone has hacked the Sagem one yet but the username and password should work. AFAIK any valid Sky username/password combination works on any Sky broadband line - they are a combination defined by the MAC code of the router unless Sky disable them.
EDIT: Sorry - beaten to the post again!

Unique usernames and passwords are assigned to each router not each customer. It appears that when Sky send out a replacement router, they add the unique username and password of the replacement router to their authentication server, but they don't delete the username and password of the old router. So you end up having as many username/password pairs as you have routers - all of them still valid.
What isn't known is what happens when a customer leaves Sky. Do Sky delete all the usernames and passwords associated with that customer? Or maybe just the last one? Or maybe they don't delete them at all?

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
It beats me how new unopened Sky Sagem routers can turn up on eBay already. I think they must be forgetting to lock the door of the warehouse
If the Sagem has not been issued to a user, the username/password will not be scanned into the Sky system, so it will not connect. You will have to flash it and put in one of the username/passwords from your supply of Netgear routers. Hopefully someone will be able to tell you how to do this, but almost all the online references are to the Sky issue, none for firmware.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
The terms and conditions say you have to send back the broken router if you want to get a replacement under warranty, but they seem to send out the new router first and not kick up too much fuss if you don't actually send the old one back.
It all adds up to a nice little earner really. "Ooh... erm... my Sky router... erm... has broken. Can you send me a new one?" And a few days later a brand new router appears on eBay. Twenty quid plus postage and packing - all for the price of a phone call.
Yet another reason why Sky's router policy is stoopid, stoopid, stoopid.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
When my original Sky router died a death on me, Sky never asked for the old router to be returned at all. The old router is now being used as a handy door stop

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Likewise. I wasn't asked to send the old router back when I got a replacement. So I didn't.
But it does say in the Sky Broadband Terms and Conditions:
Quote:
|
(g) To report a fault, please call us on 08705 515 515. If a reported fault cannot be remedied by one of our engineers over the phone, then we will either repair or replace your equipment, whichever is reasonably considered to be the most proportionate. Any equipment that is replaced must be returned to us in the manner we request.
|
Actually, reading that again, it doesn't really explain what you should do if they don't actually specify a manner of returning it.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Thats very interesting, if its in the terms and conditions then SKY should be replacing/repairing them even when out of warranty!
How does that tie up with This Post

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Hi,
Sorry if this has been dealt with before but new to the forum.
Got my Segam router a few days ago and the wireless only works about 1m away......tried it with 2 laptops and an xbox360....all the same.
Anyway.....does anyone know how I can get my password from the Sagem router so that I can use my trusty Netgear router instead. I know that the username is 'MACCODE'@skydsl - but how do I get the password off ?
Cheers
Scott
