Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Ok, i've updated my ethenet drivers, ive tried win2k,xp and windows vista with this recovery utility and i keep getting a graphical glitch in the program, ive tried updating graphic drivers and downgrading and also ive tried .net frame work 1.0,1.1 and 2.0 and now ive removed it all together and still problem persists!
i've also tried runing it in 95,98,win2k and NT mode in program compatable settings.
nothing happens after i press upgrade, i've left it 3 hours and nothing.
help needed here
EDIT: FIXED, it was the ethernet adapter, check your drivers or stick in a new NIC card, realtek seemed to work a treat.
program appears to only be wrking on XP, i tested 2000,win vista, win server 2003.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
I had the same thing happen on my mac when I was updating the router via a virtual copy of Windows XP - it did not like the fact that my virtual version of XP did not have an IP address supplied from the router.
I had to borrow a friends Xp machine.
I don't suppose your LAN card is in bridged mode or something like that is it? Is the IP address on your machine the one provided by the router, and is the machine the only box plugged into the router?

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
I've had the same, also tried on Vista, XP Pro, XP Home and Win2000. It does not seem to be able to find the router for some reason. Can anyone confirm the type/model of NIC they used successfully. I think that may be where the problem lies. Fortunately, I got the one I am trying to upgrade very cheaply at a boot sale, so it is no great loss if I can't fix it, but it would be nice if I could

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Works fine on my PC (or at least it does when I boot into Windows XP). That has an Intel PRO/1000 gigabit Ethernet chip on the motherboard.
I swear by Intel network interfaces. Never had any kind of problem with them, they perform really well, they're always support by whatever operating system you might choose to run on you PC (even OS/2) and support from Intel is excellent. And whatever you want to do with them, it's always supported, wake-on-lan, boot from network - you name it, it's there.
I sound like some kind of crazed Intel fanboy, don't I.

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
I think you may have hit it on the head James, at the moment I have a Realtek gigabit, built in to my main PC's board, and a D-link and an SIS on my other PCs. I have ordered an Intel Pro100 and will try that. I fix PCs as a hobby so it will not go to waste, even if it does not work. I will report back when I have tried it.

The PC I borrowed was using a VIA ethernet card built into the motherboard - not sure which model I'm afriad.

How do i find if its in bridged mode, how can i change it? and nope only one machine to the router, and dhcp is assigning the ip
Well, looks like i'll be bagging my router up and taking it to work.. hundreds of machines all shapes and sizes there... thats my last hope =/

Re: Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!
Ah well if you've tried it on lots of machines then it probably wasn't a bridged connection....
Can we just confirm that the router is in recovery mode? i.e. you've got the orange and green alternating lights going?
Other than that I'm afraid I don't know - It didn't work on one machine, then worked on the next one!
