      Speed test on 5ghz.

My laptop only runs on 2.4, as does my sons laptop. I have no problems with phones - they're on 5ghz - or wired connections. The tv streams fine wirelessly too (it didn't before) and my lads only complain about the laptop so I'm presuming consoles are ok or they don't really use it on the network enough to notice a problem.

These tests were run upstairs in the room directly above the router. It's an Archer D2 wired to the black Sky Hub. Wireless is turned off on the Sky Hub and the Archer is set to router only mode.

Try downloading and using Inssider2, link below. Find the quietest channel and set your router's 2.4 wireless to that. If you can't find an empty channel, try #13, it is often the best as few routers use it automatically.

Using WifiInfoView I've set the channel to 6 as they were the weakest signals. It's looking quite crowded here! The strongest signals are on 1 and 11.

I have never used WifiinfoView but surely you want to be on the strongest signal, not the weakest? Try Channel #13.

No, I meant the other networks that were on ch6 were weakest.
      I'm trying 13 now...

That is very poor. Strange when your upload is relatively high. Have you checked with another speedtester? Have you checked you have the latest manufacturers drivers for your laptop? Don't believe Windows if it says you have the latest, go to the adapter manufacturers site and enquire there.

      Re: Still having speed issues...

The speed tests were done on my iPhone using the Ookla app on both 2.4 and 5ghz. I tested last night too. Downloads are horrendous on the laptop atm. It took ages to download the WifiInfoView and I also downloaded CCleaner from CNET which also took a while. I've got three torrents going. Not normally a problem and it's not a good judge either, but they're downloading at less than 30kb/s each. I've stopped them for each speed test I've done. My son gets problems on his laptop too. This is the worst it's been since I bought the new router - it has fixed most of the problems I had before.

      Re: Still having speed issues...

Ok. So unplugging a Bluetooth receiver appears to have cured the problem!
I knew it was interference, I just didn't know what was interfering. On googling Bluetooth also uses the 2.4ghz channel. I didn't know this. The Bluetooth receiver is for sending music to a set of iPhone speakers. I'm not going to have any music to work to but at least I'll be able to work lol!

      Re: Still having speed issues...

That is the problem with Wifi analysers, they only pick up wireless networks, but interference comes from many other sources.. Thanks for coming back with the solution to your problem.
