      Improve wireless speeds

Hopefully this is the right place to post...

I'm looking at ways to improve my Wifi...
I'm talking about the actual strength and quality of the signal.
I'm on the Sky unlimited BB with the new white Sky Hub.
My speeds are OK (according to various test)...around 13-15 Mbps.
But the wifi signal in the house is not good.
      How can I prove it?
I have a wireless booster from Sky, but to be perfect honest I haven't really noticed that its helped.
Router is nowhere near a cordless phone

      Re: Improve wireless speeds

Firstly the black hub sr102 is the latest sky Hub, sounds like you have the sr101, but pretty similar anyway.

Near your router what speed are your wireless devices giving, compared to an ethernet signal?
What wireless devices are you using?

You may want to get one of the apps, to check out how noisy your neighbouring wireless routers are and affecting yours.
I use Wifi Analyzer on a google device and it always shows me on channel 11 as on my own.

Most round me have sky, but are spread on lower channels, two plusnet and a couple of talk talk users are on 6 and a few virgin media are on 8.
Do have two BT routers that I can see to the front of my property that are both 'open' and are both on channel 1.

I do find the wireless in the sr102 (and during the testing we did with sky for the router) to be very reliable and it works well 100 feet down my garden with about an obvious but ok drop in speed of my 19.5mb
When we tested the wireless extender with sky it added nothing for me, just have one blackspot that is behind many walls and did improve a little.
I often sit and work outisde and use wireless on my iPad, iphone, android tablets and Samsung Mega and its always reliable, so its worth tweaking if your struggling.

I'm not at home now so cant do a speed check. But if I'm sat next to router, I'm happy. If I go into kitchen, with door open (directly adjoined to lounge, where router is), approx 15 feet, I get connection issues, poor speed and sometimes complete loss of signal.
I'm using an LG G2 phone, but wige has she problem on iPhone, and we get it on the laptop also

      Re: Improve wireless speeds

ok download the wifi analyser app on your LG and run it and report back what you see?
Its free and no config needed.
You cannot run one on iOS.
I would look at what it shows near router, then walk to half way between and then 15 feet point where you are have problem. Let it settle for a min to give the reading.
A screenshot to here of what you are getting will be good.

OK. So. Done some tests WiFi Analyser app.

      Sat next to router:

      Some 15 ft from router:

And some stats for good measure....

My assumption here is the channel I'm using?

      Re: Improve wireless speeds

In the wireless settings of router page there is a 'Mode' option....what is this. Its currently set to auto?

The analyser app tells me to use channel 14, but I can only select up to 13?

      Re: Improve wireless speeds

Best to keep at auto, that is where you change channel. But do not do that yet.
The sky router will change it to the least congested channel.

For your screenshots, would be good to see the channel graph and the ap list, select view at top of app.
The one screen you have picked, does not really show much for us to analyze at the moment.

I quite often see other networks in the same channel as mine...not now though.... Typical

      Re: Improve wireless speeds

You do not have any congestion and not much drop out there (except what you expect for fifteen feet away).
I would expect your 15 feet away to get 12mb plus based on your stats, assume near router you get a good 14mb.
But walls and differing house builds do make a difference.
Based on what you show there, its not other routers that are causing the problem. Is it only the kitchen you have this problem, or 15 feet or more in other parts of the house does this happen?

      12mb!?
Nope. Luck if I hit 10.
Sat next to router now. Done a test. 2.23...
      http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/1123114696

      Similar speed throughout the house.

      Just downloaded 12mb app...took 3-4 minutes.
