It is the channel that is causing the effect with the subwoofer, so keep on auto.
Your 10mb to 12mb speed is good for your stats.

OK. Ill switch back and see how it steadies out.
What's the reasoning for leaving (or changing) the mode? For my own knowledge?

It summarises it best in the sky stats page, via help option next to mode.

Check with wifi analyser at different times during the day and especially at weekends or evenings, as your neighbouring routers will go on and off.
Then you will see if any channel is congested, 6 and 13 looked good or 5 as you used.
      Now you know how to

OK. That doesn't really explain to someone with as little knowledge as me.
But if I understand its to with the devices that are connecting?
If all my devices are 54g compatible....go for that? I guess?

      Another question / topic....

Can I use my old black sky router (sagem I think) as a repeater. Meaning connect that wirelessly to the hun, and use that as a means to hard wire sky+ box, bluray, none WiFi enabled devices etc to internet

Best to stick with Auto for the mode.

For your other question, homeplugs is the best option.
Explains all here and it works well with all your asking to connect.
Looks like you need one with 2/3 ports.
Cost about 30 for the twin pack.
This is a popular one that I have seen many use and has 3 ports, so will allow your sky hd box, bluray and one other device to connect to it.

A good vid that shows how easy they are to install and use

      Yeah I've seen the homeplugs.
But I'm looking for a free option!

Is it possible with an old router?
      I'd have thought yes...
