Can I get better speeds...?
Hi all,
I'v been lurking for a few days as I've just changed my router from a DG834GT to the F@ST2504n mainly because of the uPnP problems the Netgear had and to get N wireless.
I'm getting about the same speeds from the both modems:
Connection Speed 4795 kbps 501 kbps Line Attenuation 57.5 dB 34.9 dB Noise Margin 2.9 dB 10.0 dB
But I wondered if there's anything I can do to improve this?
I've used various tools that say I should be getting between 1mb and 14mb. Should the first thing to be call Sky?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Can I get better speeds...?
Can you plug into your Test socket if you have one, using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky and post your stats.
Sky User - How to test your Master Socket
If you do not have a Test socket remove everything you have plugged into the phone circuit and plug the router into the Master socket, again using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky. Post the stats.
At the moment you are getting as much as you can, maybe too much in fact.

Re: Can I get better speeds...?
Thanks for the reply.
The stats are the same if I connect to the master socket.
If I'm getting the max my my area then I'm not so worried. It's just if it's possible to get double or three times the speed then I try to do something about it.
Incidentally, how can you tell that I'm getting as much as I can?
Thanks,

Re: Can I get better speeds...?
Your noise margin is very low. This is what would change in the Test socket and why we ask you to post the stats. As your connection will be capped, the speed itself is unlikely to increase.Incidentally, how can you tell that I'm getting as much as I can
Our speed estimator, which is based on a noise margin of 6-7 db, is predicting 3-4 Mb, which you are exceeding due to the low noise margin that you have. With your attenuation there is no way you will get anything like 3 times the speed you have. I don't know which estimator said you could get 11Mb, it is very far out.
