Decent Connection Poor Download Speed

I have been with sky unlimited since Jan, although I get a decent connection speed, my actual download speeds (as measured with sky user meter) seem to be dropping, from 11048 Kbps (Jan 30th) to 7096Kbs (today) I have a filtered faceplate and connect via ethernet on a V1 router. I even tried tweaking the snr, which gave me a better connection speed, but did little to the actual download speed, Is there anything else I can do to boost the speed?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16130 kbps 1168 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.5 db 14.6 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 7.3 db

Re: Decent Connection Poor Download Speed

Just noticed that, I also just noticed that the speed test is about as useful as all speed tests. It just told me I have a 4Mb connection when I know it's 16. Speed tests can be impacted by many things including server load. Router stats are showing a healthy connection speed so don't panic.

You might want to try going the other way and tweak the noise margin up. This will drop your sync speed but make the connection more stable. Very often when your noise margin is low, errors are introduced which actually decrease your download speed.

Apart from that, have you checked you PC for malware by running something like Malwarebytes.

If you are using XP it might be worth running TCPOptimiser from the link below.
