Do Sky always turn your speed down...

Just got 'Sky Base' which started at 1mb download speed, after testing it was set at 512kb. I rang them up to complain & the guy immediately bumped it up to 2mb (my max but said if i decided to upgrade at some stage, my line was capable of 3.5mb)... Now 2 days later my download is set at 952kb do i have to phone every couple of days to keep my speed up...........

If you have joined within the last 10 days, its pointless ringing Sky - You would be on DLM - If the CS person changes anything, it would just revert back to the DLM

Wait 10 days and see where you end up.

What Is DLM? Everything you need to know.

If there is still a problem after DLM is finished then give sky a call and they can take dlm off and connect you to the speed that your line can handle.

Re: Do Sky always turn your speed down...

Its the other bits we need.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6041 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 8.9 db 7.5 db

Just noticed my Line Attenuation is 50.0db when normally it is 45db - Must be a heat issue. As I haven't physically moved any further away from the exchange. The attenuation is physically the actual line length and I have no idea how that could be increased.

Re: Do Sky always turn your speed down...

OK

With those stats, you are at approx 1meg down, and 412Kb up - However I would have thought that you should *theoretically* see the full 2meg on Base, and possibly up to 6meg if on Mid / Everyday.

Not quite sure why you are seeing such poor results.

You could try posting the stats from the test socket and see if any better, or as previously said, you could be on DLM or even capped.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

In reality your attenuation is not far off mine, and I am currently at 6meg and normally get approx 7 meg

Re: Do Sky always turn your speed down...

Well, we have been speaking about this tonight as mine have been rock solid for the past 3 years at :-

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15523 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 23.0 db 12.5 db

Tonight the router has rebooted and no amount of rebooting can get it above :-

Connection Speed 5243 kbps 459 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 db 17.5 db

I'm not convinced its the heat effecting the line length, I know copper expands but it doesnt get twice as long for a few degrees rise, and I havnt moved house so what is going on ? Could it be DLM as the upload has also changed. If so - thanks for the email which would have stopped me messing around with router, cables & filter etc and made things worse.

Suggestions welcome
